After the French and Indian war the British were broke. In an attempt to get money back they started taxing paper, pottery, cups and of course, tea. This act is known as the Stamp Act and was passed in 1765. Many patriots didn't agree with the infamous Tea Act. Because of this in 1765 some men created a secret group called the Sons of Liberty. They protested and had secret codes, badges and symbols. This was so spy's would not get information from the organization. They also had a flag that resembles the current american flag. The flag had 5 red stripes and 4 white stripes going in a 1-2-1-2 pattern. After the Sons of Liberty, another group called the Daughters of Liberty grew from the shadow of them. The Daughters of Liberty made tea called liberty tea, so America didn't have to buy from the British.

The Sons and Daughters of Liberty had power. Everyone was mad because of the Stamp Act, which is when it all started. They had persuasive power and, power in numbers. People were very mad at the Stamp Act so they would do anything to stop it, including murder. People did what ever they said because, they were considered hero's. They would use peoples anger for "good."

The Sons and Daughters of Liberty must of seen the British as the "bad guys" because the British were taking their money and were not using it for the 13 American Colonies. The British might of thought the Sons and Daughters of Liberty were no more than a gang of thugs and gangsters because the sons were hanging their men and protesting their laws. This may have made the British think America were cheating scumbags and that America were the evil side of the argument.

One of our guesses is that the modern american flag may have been built on the Sons of Liberty flag because the color and pattern. Another one of our thoughts is that the Sons of Liberty could have handled things better instead of covering British in hot tar and feathers! (They were really crazy!) Another question we had was if the British won would they be known as thugs or would they be forgotten? We also noticed the daughters of liberty were in the texts less than the sons of liberty. Maybe this was because before the women were looked down on and maybe this lead to the daughters doing less things in the battle and so this may have lead to them being less known. We also didn't find when the organization ended but we theorize it was disbanded before the war. We think this because all the texts we read ended before the war.
