Royal Poinciana propagation can be done by using seeds or cuttings. Seed germination will require scarification to break the outer seed coat so water may enter the seed. To scarify the seed, take a small knife and cut slightly into the side just enough to allow water in. Using a seed tray, place the seed about an inch into well drained potting mix. Keep the seed tray in a warm shaded area and keep soil moist. Germination should be complete in about four to six days.

For cuttings, take a knife and cut a 1 ft. stem off of the tree and remove the lower growth. Rooting hormone should be added to the bottom of the stem and then the stem placed in a 1 gallon container with potting mix. The soil should be kept moist and out of direct sunlight until new growth appears which can take several months. Once new growth appears you may place the cutting into direct sunlight until cutting is ready to be transplanted.

Royal Poinciana will need pruning to remove branches that can break during high winds and helps to create an even canopy. Pruning should be done in March or April just before new growth appears. When pruning make sure to cut branches that are 8 to 12 ft. from the ground to allow for a fuller canopy and removing branches that are half the diameter of the trunk throughout the tree.

Also the yellow will be stronger near the vein of the leaf and more green towards the edge of the leaf with this deficiency.

Solution: Apply a micronutrient or a fertilizer of your choice that includes these micronutrients. A liquid fertilizer will give a quick boost and slow-release will give lasting protection.
