         <title>Parts of Javelin</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Javelin is an individual sport part of athletics, classified as one of 4 olympic throws events. <br><br>The event can be broken down into 2 key parts, the run-up and throw. Each one of these consists of many other parts though. In general, the run-up begins with the forward carry, where the athlete holds the javelin above their head and runs in a forward manner. This creates rhythm and begins to increase the speed. After this comes the cross-over steps. This is where the athlete reaches maximum speed. The last and second-last step are often much longer to prepare for the throw. Before throwing the athlete leans back and transfers all their weight towards the back of the body, taking a long step with their left leg. The heel lands first and the knee remains straight, stopping the athlete and transferring energy into the throw. The left arm works in unison with the throwing arm, providing balance and strength. The javelin is thrown at the top or slightly above the head, and due to the grip, the javelin begins to rotate. </div>]]></description>

         <title>What Skills are needed? </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Javelin requires closed and self-paced skills. The event is very technical and requires many skills to bring the throw together. <br><br>The side-steps can be very hard to master but are a necessary skill. The athlete must be able to hold the javelin up, maintain the body back, crouch, stay side-on and often twisted, keep weight on the right leg and create enough speed. <br><br>The grip is very important to create rotation in the javelin and transfer strength. There are multiple grips with the American and Finnish being the most popular and successful.<br><br>As already explained, the block is one of the most fundamental parts of javelin. The follow through is also important though as it can help the trajectory of the javelin and stop the thrower from doing a line-foul.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The biomechanics in javelin are countless, and have helped shape the technique used.<br><br>The actual javelin faces 2 forces. The first is clearly gravity, as the javelin is brought down after a certain period of time. Air resistance is the other, but is counteracted by the rotation placed in the javelin. The angle in which the javelin is thrown is also related to air resistance. With air in the back, the javelin is throw higher. With air coming towards you, you throw the javelin lower. You can also take advantage of wind if it is coming from each side.<br><br>There is clear applied force when throwing the javelin, and up-force/down-force from the ground and athlete.<br><br>Distance is obviously impacted by the force put into the throw. The heavier the javelin, the more force must be put into it. Additionally, if the thrower is lighter, then they must create more acceleration to make momentum.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Coaching Tips</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Javelin training requires many aspects. The throwing and technique, strength and power through weights or weighted exercises, sprints (not too long) and jump exercises (often short and regular hurdles). More can be added if necessary.<br><br>Jumps, sprints and weights can be coached differently depending on the athlete and are not very different to other sports. Some drills may be specified to javelin though.<br><br>As for the throws (after warm-up and many drills) it is usually based on the athlete completing a throw and then given feedback. The coach may decide to make the athlete go back to drills if necessary. It is very important to often ask the athlete what they thought was good and bad about the throw to show kinesthetics.<br><br>The coaching style really depends on whether it is one on one training or squad training. Overall, training usually requires authoritarian, with slight democratic implemented. It is important to set an image for the athletes as a lot can be complicated. </div>]]></description>
