PT in Schools:

Does anyone have any experience getting PT in school for toe walking?

We cant get the school to address my 9 year olds toe walking to the extent that he is now knock kneed, has ankle and knee issues...he walks more on his toes than his heels. He is in OP therapy but only for 1 hour a week. He's entering into some serious long term complications from toe walking--I have been asking about the toe walking since he was 2 years old! No one will take ownership and help treat him. PT is inconsistent they havent had one available since August except 3 sessions (over 4 months).

Leg Up Farms

Good morning. I just wanted to share an amazing place called Leg Up Farms. It was started because a parent just like us could not find the services he needed for his daughter. They are currently open in Manchester, PA in York County, but they are in the planning stages and raising funds to open a location in Franklin County. The thing that is so great about Leg Up Farms is that they have everything under one roof! Some of the services they have are Speech, Feeding Therapy, Social Groups, OT, Behavior Health, Horse Therapy and Aquatic Therapy. It has been a blessing to my son to have his therapists working together to not only support him, but to support us a family unit….it’s been a complete game changer! They go beyond the the educational side of things and approach the whole life of the child and family supporting them. I cannot say enough about what they do! They also have a local farm store called Leg Up Farm Market that uses the funds to have job training called Able Life.

Tara Poe

Procedural vs. LRE violations

I'm hearing from advocates and inclusion experts (and it's certainly my own experience) that hearing officers and courts are generally reluctant to weigh in on issues of LRE and "appropriateness" of program or placement. Instead, due process and federal cases are most often won on procedural grounds. So it is crucial to know the safeguards and take good notes throughout each step of the process. - Betsy
