When the candle burns out, the oxygen is sucked up and vacuums the container and the mouse will not be able to live for a long time. The container only has a limited amount of air inside which if a candle was burned inside, the oxygen is easily vacuumed. Since a plant has been growing inside the container, it should be able to produce enough oxygen for the mouse through photosynthesis.

The mouse is able to get oxygen, however the plant needs carbon dioxide to produce new air for the mouse. The plant will eventually die and so will the mouse. The candle uses oxygen and when it does the amount of oxygen nearby will become limited.
