If she picks up, I will ask her about why she is not coming to school for so long with no valid reason. If she does not pick up, I will try my best to not be absent from school for any of the days so that if she comes, I can ask her what had happened. If she does not want to tell me then I will observe her behaviour. If she behaves differently than how she is normally, I will bring her to a teacher and find out what had happened. If she is then I would concentrate on what she is saying even if it doesn't sound that serious or it sounds funny I would keep quiet as this may be something that is really a problem to her. After she has finished speaking I would say, " I understand" or "I will help you get through this" and would try to help through this. If she is crying or something then I would try to calm her down by counting or deep breaths. And if I do not really understand what she is going through I would practice empathy and being in her shoes. I would understand that this must be very hard for her. I would also try to encourage her to come to school more often. After listening, if this issue is really something that I think that she can't handle alone (and she agrees with this)I would refer to a trusted adult or teacher and tell the person about this matter. If this friend is also struggling with keeping up with schoolwork I would offer to help her with it by giving her some hints or teaching her some methods that she had missed out on.
