In this TikTok, Tate claims that he loves his niece, and that he does not 'want her to grow up in a world where women are hated [...] where men are oppressive and hurting women.' He wants her to 'find a strong man who can protect her.' He goes on to say that while his 'own personal circumstances regarding family [...] are once again confidential [...] but the last thing [he] wants is for women to be marginalised.'

This is where his brand becomes contradictory; he vouches that women should not be oppressed or hurt by men, yet he has caused physical harm to women. The brand he markets towards men acts as oppressive towards the female audience by excluding them from having ambition; they are linked to their traditional roles which can be seen as oppressing them.

Tate was dismissed from Big Brother during the 2016 season after only six days of filming. He then claimed on Facebook that he was released because he expressed "big plans" that would lead other cast members to "kick off." Because of his kickboxing experience, producers were afraid that Tate's retaliation might constitute a threat. Channel 5 contradicted this allegation, alleging that the claims made for his release were false and that he was removed because a video of him hitting a lady resurfaced. Tate later claimed that the video was a "kinky sex tape."

Unlike TV celebrities who adopt a 'fictitious identity', sports stars offer real individuals taking part in unpredictable contests, differentiating them from the 'manufactured celebrity' and making them authentic stars. Their vulnerability allows their fans to become intimate with their life, generating real, believable relationships.

During Tate's kickboxing career, we can then argue that he was his real self, rather than the 'manufactured celebrity' we can later speculate him to be.

In this Sky News article, Josephine Franks discusses Andrew Tate's more controversial takes in the media.

The article discusses Tate's house arrest which was put into place on March 31st 2023 after he and his brother were released from prison. The appeal to extend their detention was rejected by the court, and they remained under house arrest from August 4th til October 2nd.

Franks goes on to write about Tate's bans from social media platforms; including, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and Tiktok. His bans fall under the violation of parent company Meta's policies on "dangerous individuals" and misogynistic views. His content has been viewed billions of times on fan channels.

Franks writes that Tate and his brother are accused of rape, human trafficking and organised crime. They denied all allegations and Romanian authorities have confiscated 15 luxury cars and 10 properties that the two brothers owned.

The article also touches on Tate's standpoint in regard to rape victims, claiming he stated that rape victims "bear some responsibility" for their attacks and that women "belong in the home". In a video, he explained why he moved to Romania: "I like being free", suggesting he moved to Romania to undertake illegal acts.

The article also mentions that Tate sparked a row with Greta Thunberg on Twitter when he shared a picture of himself standing next to a Bugatti and saying he owned 33 cars. Tate hit back with a video telling Ms Thunberg to "get a life", furthering his disregard for other people's opinions/criticism about himself.

Finally, Franks discusses that Tate's Hustler University members were told to flood social media with videos of him, which helped him become virally famous and potentially made him millions of pounds. This could be viewed as celebrity commodification, in hopes that controversies surrounding Tate would spark backlash, and therefore generate discussions about his morality.

The article describes the brothers' arrest back in December 2022 and they were later placed on house arrest in March 2023. The pair, alongside two other associates, are charged with rape, human trafficking and establishing an organised crime group to exploit women sexually.
The article quotes Tate after leaving court, stating he "look[s] forward to being found innocent"
This quote contradicts his marriage views which I previously mentioned in section 1 (in his interview with Piers Morgan), and it marks a clear change in his persona. This misogynistic image he has created has been associated with his star image ever since, and it has become one of the main discourses when describing his person.

The article concludes by writing "Despite social media bans, he gained popularity, particularly among young men, by promoting what he presented as a hyper-masculine, ultra-luxurious lifestyle." This statement further shapes his star image, with BBC highlighting the adoration fans have for him and his controversial opinions, heightening the power Tate has amalgamated over time, despite the lack of media presence (from his bans).

Journalist Tobi Thomas writes that 'according to the law firm, the aim of the lawsuit is to seek "justice, accountability and compensation for Tate's victims."
The article details the women's experiences, and yet this article also ends with a quote from one of Tate's spokespersons: “We understand there is a lot of interest surrounding Andrew at the moment; however, he vehemently denies these accusations and does not condone violence of any kind towards women. All sexual acts that Andrew has partaken in have been consensual and agreed upon before by both parties." Again, we see Tate on the defensive, but none of these views agree with his initial argument that his viral clip was 'taken out of context'

One person commented on the Telegraph interview;

"What they fail to realize is that the message is already out. More and more young men are resonating with this and the fact that they held him that long without charging him until now speaks volumes. Now more people will doubt anything else because the way it was handled indicates some level of corruption."

while another commented;

"This man changed my life and I will never believe what the media [purports]."

One user responded to this comment, claiming that the 'paid comments are in full swing, and they continued to correct the user's misspelling of 'purport', which was initially spelt 'proport'.

Another user bashed the criminal justice system, arguing that "instead of investing crime to find the perpetrator, they are investigating the man to find a crime..."

All three comments reveal an aspect of what they believe about Andrew Tate. The first comment also mentions the legality of the case, claiming that there is corruption involved despite the Tates' arrest, and this can be due to either his wealth or the image he upholds. They reason that despite the lateness of his arrest, the message that the influencer is promoting to young boys is clear: they will see this behaviour and will resonate with its beliefs.

The next comment seems to be in favour of Tate, insisting his innocence and that anything we read in the media is fake because Tate has aided many individuals with his media influence over the years. Despite the authenticity of the comment (implied by the spelling error), one user argues that this comment was paid in order to promote the likes of Tate's innocent behaviour. However, Tate also used the word 'purport' in his interview, so we see how quickly he is to influence his followers' vocabulary.

The final comment is also degrading to the justice system inadvertently siding with Tate. They argue that by finding a perpetrator to fit the crime, they are wrongly accusing Tate by pinning him to crimes he has not been linked to.

Van den Bulk and Larsson explain that 'celebrities need the media for (controlled) exposure of their public endeavours, even if they are fiercely protective of their privacy' They go on to say that 'celebrities help media compete for audience (and thus advertising) shares by providing news that draws audiences’ attention'. Thus we can deduce that by Tate refusing to share his personal views on family life, while fiercely defending his niece and the marginalisation of women, he is able to control his audience by sharing contradictory views.

This promotes the idea of individuality, they're unique and special, and they're good enough to be part of the inner circle.

00:00 - 1:41 - Tate claims that both men and women have their strengths and weaknesses and there is nothing wrong with that, we should have to accept this fact. He argues that men and women should come together to complete each other and help each other in the parts of life the other fails in, and that this ideal will create harmony.

He claims that men excel in the physical world and likens this to the men fighting on the frontline in Ukraine. He quotes, "to sit and pretend that women are just as physically capable as men is a ******* lie; it's delusion [...] [women] are good at other things, [women] are better than men at other things but it's not the physical world"

His speech links back to his website. We see his idea of exclusivity shining through in the content he promotes. He targets men because he believes ambition can only be exclusive to them. But he does not necessarily oppress or berate women here, instead, he discusses that they have other talents that are useful to the world, and perhaps this is why he does not accommodate their ambitious needs - because they should not want to become higher in status, their should want to elevate the man's status when they are with them.

His image is about manipulating his vocabulary in order to commercialise his controversial persona into a business prospect. He knows how to speak to his audience in order to gain their approval, and he motivates them through monetary incentives.

Van den Bulk and Larsson argue that social media platforms like Twitter enable celebrities to mediate parasocial relationships with their audiences, allowing the celebrity to 'communicate authentically and intimately' (Marwick and Boyd, 2011 in Van den Bulk and Larsson). Their analysis allows us to question Tate's authenticity when he posts on his social media. His posts have broken guideline restrictions on multiple platforms, earning him bans from most major social media outlets. This brings into question if it is all a publicity stunt (so that Tate can promote the likes of The Hustlers University to do his bidding) or, if he truly believes the ideas he is spreading on his platforms.

However, in this article they mention; "in a deleted YouTube video that was reposted to Reddit, Tate said “40 percent” of the reason he moved to the country was that he believed sexual assault cases were less likely to be investigated there."

Following this article's dictation, it reveals that Tate does not necessarily care about his moral image. He has firm beliefs and he shows honesty in his words. Though one may argue that his wealth and success aid his successful branding. While he has a large amount of people despising his character, there are many who agree with his views. Statements like the one above become redundant to that small mass of people because all they see is a successful, wealthy man who can do no wrong. They're more likely to believe the allegations are fake because they have similar values as one another.
