The main character Emily acts in a very creepy and suspicious way. She acts this way perhaps because all of the townspeople exclude her and watch her every move. Emily is isolated and abandoned multiple times throughout the story, so the fear of being abandoned again is what causes her to kill and keep her sweetheart.
