Creating this portfolio exposed me to different techniques I can use in a classroom as a future teacher. It also showed me there are numerous resources to use to make lessons more interactive for students. I learned how beneficial centers are to the learning of students. Many of the resources I found were resources that get incorporated into centers and the teachers stated they saw students being more engaged and learn the tasks at hand better then simply receiving instructions and practicing it afterwards.

It is important for teachers to receive professional development in literacy because it exposes teachers to new techniques and gives them the tools to try new things in their classroom. People usually fall into routines and don't like to stray away from them one they are set. But for students I believe it is essential to incorporate new things into the classroom to keep their interest. By providing PD's with new techniques about literacy it ensures that teachers have no excuse to change things up in their classroom for students.

Standard #1: Learner Development :

The teacher understands how learners grow and develop, recognizing that patterns of learning and development vary individually within and across the cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical areas, and designs and implements developmentally appropriate and challenging learning experiences.

This assignment addressed this standard because of the research that was needed to be done to find the resources to support the topics. After researching each topic it became more apparent how necessary engaging activities are for students to learn as well as creating activities that are appropriate to the students needs.
