What is PotMed?

PotMed (Potential Medics) is an initiative which provides support for medical school admissions. This includes our annual conference, and a series of Intensives throughout the year (UCAT, Personal Statement, MMI Intensives). Our aim is to equip potential medical students with everything they need to succeed.

Imperial College have also reintroduced our mentorship scheme this year, which they welcome our students to sign up to. Applying students will have the chance to be paired up with current Imperial Medical students, giving them the opportunity to receive advice on applications, guidance on studying, and valuable insight into life at medical school.

What is the PotMed Conference?

The annual PotMed Conference is an award-winning one-day medicine application crash course organised by the Muslim Medics society of Imperial College London.

It is open to all aspiring medics regardless of faith.

The course is aimed at year 12/13 students (separate itinerary’s based off the admission timelines) as well as gap year and graduate entry students (although younger students are also welcome!)

The course will include:

●      1-1 discussion and personalised feedback on your personal statement by a medical student. Presentation on what goes into making a great personal statement.

●      A ‘unique’ interviews tutorial session with a chance to practice

●      Mock interviews (MMI) with individual feedback, all in a supportive environment set to emulate the real thing as closely as possible.

●      *Comprehensive review of each section in the UCAT with advice on how to tackle common question types, practice questions and worked answers.

●      Ethics seminar to craft your reasoning skills and help you grasp complex medical issues.

The UCL Target Medicine Mentor Scheme is a free year long programme for Year 12 students in and around Greater London from underrepresented backgrounds with the potential and desire to go to Medical School. Successful applicants will be paired with a current UCL Medical Student who will act as their mentor for an entire calendar year, from January to December 2026.

The programme is made up of seven face-to-face mentoring sessions, regular contact with a mentor using the Brightside online mentoring platform, and a series of additional information, advice and guidance events. The schedule includes practice and advice in various areas including work experience, the UCAT, personal statements and mock interviews.

The Tech Mentor No-Code Hackathon is a hands-on, team-based virtual event where students will have the chance to:

Over the course of the programme you will hear from a wide variety of speakers to help build your understanding of the opportunities and challenges of being a doctor and dentist, as well as guidance on the application process. Last year’s lectures included the following:

·       Q&A with admissions colleagues from King’s various universities

Topic: Film Masterclass: Activist Film Making

This masterclass in activist filmmaking challenges cinema as mere entertainment, exploring film’s power to question justice, representation and public perceptions of prison. Drawing on work in HMP Downview women’s prison, it examines films made by women and how giving marginalised people space to tell their own stories disrupts systems of silence. The session reframes film as an ethical, political tool for change and offers Media and Film Studies students a powerful case study in alternative media, authorship, power and ideology. 

Topic: Who gets left behind? Understanding Inequality in Education

In this taster session, you will explore how social class, power and inequality shape educational experiences, and why working-class learners have been historically underrepresented and underachieved in education. You will examine how education systems often reward cultural capital, such as confidence with academic language and behaviour, while disadvantaging others. Through discussion and real-world examples, you will consider how schools, universities and policymakers are addressing these inequalities through widening participation, inclusive curricula and alternative educational routes.

The internship is based within our Conveyancing Department and is intended for students who have an interest in law or professional services but may not wish to pursue the traditional university or degree apprenticeship route. The role has been structured specifically for school leavers with no prior legal experience, with full training and close supervision provided throughout. The role will provide training to become a legal assistant who will assist solicitors to manage administrative/ clerical and operational tasks. 

The internship offers meaningful, hands-on experience within a professional legal environment and, subject to performance, there is a strong intention to offer a permanent position to become a member of the support team at the conclusion of the 12-month period.

The course will include a series of live sessions:

• Live Q&A sessions with STEM professionals in four key STEM areas Net Zero futures, Digital AI futures, Health and Life Sciences futures and Engineering, Infrastructure and Manufacturing futures.

• A session with early careers professionals on how to make successful applications including how to showcase their skills on their CV, applications and interviews.

• Hear from apprentices and universities about opportunities available in STEM in interactive panel Q&A sessions.  

• A session with early careers professionals on how to succeed in the workplace including how to ask questions, networking and writing professional emails.

The course is suitable for all abilities, enthusiasm and curiosity are far more important than prior knowledge and at the end of the course, students will graduate as Bronze-level Industrial Cadets, a nationally recognised award you can use as evidence of your experience to support future applications and career journeys.

Programmes - The Future Skills Programme: Careers in STEM

UAL reaching out to remind you that applications for summer school are still open to all year 12 (or equivalent) students! The scholarship for Impetus Education’s prestigious Future Leaders Summer Programmes is approaching (15 June 2026), and thy are encouraging you to apply as soon as possible.

Online summer programmes are designed to give ambitious students an insight into university-level study, strengthen their academic profiles, and support competitive university applications.

Programmes are taught by expert tutors from the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford, and other leading institutions, and include personalised 1:1 mentoring sessions focused on academic development, career guidance, and personal insight.
