Example:
N is being used as our unknown number
An unknown number plus 4 is written as n + 4
5 times an unknown is written as 5n
an unknown number divided by 4 is n over 4

5 times n is written without the multiplication sign, as 5n. This is because the letter x is sometimes used to represent the unknown number.
