Actually I’ve always surrounded by Buddhist people, like me. But since I move to university, I have a friend with different religion. Although, we are different, but the thing we have in common is that we are trying to understand each other and we are respecting each other.

First and foremost, my family came from a diverse religious background. Therefore, I had to be open minded to new traditions and culture. Second, every national or religious holiday my family would celebrate it and I came and celebrate it with them to express my gratitude of tolerance. I spent Chinese new years with my dad side of the family when I was younger. I would also spend Christmas with my grandma side of the family.

I am a person who used to practice Buddhism. But now I have converted to Christianity. My family still practices Buddhism. I would like to say that although my family and I practice different religions, we live together without any problems. They did not discourage or criticize me for choosing to change my religion. But they chose to ask the reason and understand the reason. And for me, changing religion wasn't because I didn't like my old religion. But I just needed a mental refuge that I felt was right for me. Currently, I still study about both religions.

I didn’t have much experience but I remember there was a time when my roommate told me that one of our teacher had faith in Christianism and Buddhism. That makes me realize that different people may have different religions and they may be close to us. so I think it is not so strange to have certain faith and we should not be afraid about this. Previuosly, I just hung out with people that have same religion as me because I went to islamic school. But when I'm in highschool, I went to public school and I have to interact with people who have different religion. It's quite fun. I got to know about others' religion and their culture. I learned that there are a lot of similarities in our religions. And I also got to know about their songs. It's pretty fun for me because there's no song in my religion. The most important thing is I learned to respect others' religion, and we can live peacefully if we respect each other. Like my friends who always remind me to pray even tho they don't pray.

Today's course actually is my rare experience with diversity. Professor provides us a wonderful topic about religion and faith. What inspired me most is the educational dynamics in promoting religious tolerence. Sometimes I feel that it is hard to change one person's mind about such things, but actually education can make a big difference. Today's topic combined former courses together. We can use inclusive curriculum. And some clubs, exchange programs, projects are also helpful.

I saw the beauty of the differences when at Borobudur, which is a Buddhist temple, there was a Christian guide and the local visitors, mostly Muslims, they came and they learned about the differences on this occasion.
