CPIN is divided into 11 areas up and down the state. Each region is housed in a County Office of Education. Our region is housed in the Contra Costa County Office of Education and is known as Bay Region 4 CPIN. Bay Region 4 CPIN serves the counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo and Solano. John has been serving as the Coordinator of Bay Region 4 CPIN since July 1, 2020. Prior to becoming a coordinator, John spent several years as an early learning principal in Oakland and as a project specialist assisting the early childhood department in West Contra Costa Unified implement state preschool programs at 12 different sites. Prior to his leadership roles, he was most recently a TK teacher in Pittsburg Unified and has 20 years of PK-5 teaching experience in California, Virginia, The District of Columbia and Maryland. In his 28th year of education, John continues to lift up the field of early childhood by being an advocate for play, leading developmentally appropriate professional development and continuing to support early educators and administrators throughout the Bay Area. As the EL Lead she disseminated research-based best practices and strategies for educating Preschool and Transitional Kindergarten aged Dual language learners (DLL’s) based on the California Preschool Learning Foundations, the California Curriculum Frameworks and the Preschool English Learner Guide (PEL Guide).

Her experience working with children and families spans over 20 years and encompasses work with migrant education programs and First 5 funded programs, facilitating parent education meetings, coordinating preschool, afterschool and summer school services, trainings for teachers and coordinating health and social services for children. She has two adult sons, the oldest who is a high school teacher and the youngest an entrepreneur. She enjoys the outdoors, salsa dancing and spending time with her grandson.

Her role was to help close the “readiness gap” and provide all Bay Area children with opportunities to begin Kindergarten ready to learn the new skills necessary for successful lifelong learning. Ms. Supple’s main responsibilities included providing early childhood administrators and teachers with high quality professional development, current and confirmed research, and best practices to support the California Preschool Learning Foundations and Curriculum Frameworks. She did this by conducting training for teachers and administrators and providing onsite coaching in preschool classrooms.

Shelek had been an educator in a professional setting for over 30 years in many different organizations. She has worked with children of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Her role as an education consultant requires her to speak to a wide range of professionals about education subjects (science, technology, engineering, math, language arts, and movement). Shalek grew up in the inner city of San Francisco, CA. Shalek was the first in her family to graduate from college in 2001 from San Jose, CA. She has worked with CPIN for over 7 years as a CPIN trainer. She has an Education Consultant business and is currently working at Pacific Oaks College. Shalek has her B.A. in Liberal Studies and an M.S. in Higher Education and is now working on and Doctorate in Higher Education.

Elizabeth has spent twenty of her twenty-nine years in MDUSD teaching kindergarten and transitional kindergarten. Her passions include building reciprocal relationships with children and families, engaging children with opportunities to explore the arts, and providing opportunities for children to explore science with excitement and curiosity.

As a member of her site's PTA, Elizabeth surveyed and evaluated data to determine the needs and interests of families in her communities. The information from the survey was instrumental in designing family education evenings.

Elizabeth spent several years as her site's Science and Engineering Representative and was a member of the MDUSD NGSS Steering Committee. She has authored and facilitated the implementation of science and art grants.

A passion for early childhood education inspired Elizabeth to become a certified CPIN trainer and earn a master's degree in Early Childhood Education at Pacific Oaks College. Elizabeth received The MDUSD Most Inspirational Teacher Award in MDUSD (2018).

Prior to working at CCCOE, she was a preschool teacher. Her passion is working with children with special needs and behavior disorders and challenges. She loves her current role as an Administrative Assistant for Mr. Moon and sees first-hand the benefit CPIN provides for teachers in the early learning field around professional development and training on all of the resources that the California Department of Education provides to the early learning community.

Working side by side with fantastic instructors and seeing the teachers’ passion for teaching and learning new things are what drives Connie to do a great job to help in any way possible to make the CPIN team succeed. Connie is also bilingual, as her first language is Spanish. She is happy to be a voice for anyone experiencing language barriers.
