Body Paragraph 1 - Nature as spiritual connection

- "I left the boat to pursue its own course and gave way to my own miserable reflections. I was often tempted, when all peace around me, and I the only unquiet thing that wandered restless in a scene so beautiful and heavenly-often, I say, I was tempted to plunge into the silent lake, that the waters might close over me and my calamities forever." (86)
- This quote is showing how Frankenstein has a spiritual connection with nature as it is bringing emotion and uplifts him. When it says "so beautiful and heavenly-often" diction is used to portray the spiritual feeling it brings him as heavenly is commonly associated with spirituality. This nature scenery brought him so much peace and tranquility that it seemed to be spiritual by its immenseness. This overall shows how nature and the scenery of it heavily impact the character's wellbeing as a whole and really sets the mood of things.

- "The immense mountains and precipices that overhung me on every side, the sound of the river raging among the rocks, and the dashing of the waterfalls around spoke of a power mighty as Omnipotence-and I ceased to fear or to bend before any being less almighty than that which had created and ruled the elements, here displayed in their most terrific guise." (90)
-This quote is showing how the monster has a spiritual connection with nature as he uses diction and language to express this connection. When it says "the dashing of the waterfalls around spoke of a power mighty as Omnipotence..." it shows the spiritual pull that nature has on the monster and the connection that it provides. Being that the monster is constantly alienated from humanity, nature provides this sense of comfort that he seeks from people but can't get because of his appearance. The word choice signifies the strong spiritual connection especially when it says "ruled the elements" which shows just how strong of a pull it has on the monster. This shows how nature is heavily impacting the monster's emotions and the power it had on the monster as a whole.

This is well done here. The connection to nature is something that both the creature and Victor share.

Body Paragraph 2 - Nature as peace and tranquility

- "The same lulling sounds acted as a lullaby to my too keen sensations; when I placed my head upon my pillow, sleep crept over me; I felt it as it came and blessed the fiver of oblivion." (91)
-This quote is showing the peace that nature brings Victor as it brings him to sleep. It shows the peace that the wind brings him as he uses a simile to compare it to a lullaby which eases him into an easy sleep. Following that it says how it blessed the fiver of oblivion meaning showing the peace and gratitude that it brought him.

- "The pleasant sunshine and the pure air of day restored me to some degree of tranquility; and when I considered what had passed at the cottage, I could not help believing that I had been too hasty in my conclusions." (138)
-This quote is showing how nature restored peace within the monster. It is prevalent that the monster found peace within himself when he was back with nature despite the other hardships he was previously enduring. This quote really showed how the peace that nature brought the monster helped him come to the realization that he probably would not have had the ability to come to if he weren't at peace and felt comforted by nature.

Body Paragraph 3 - Nature as a motif (good or bad)

- "Autumn passed thus. I saw, with surprise and grief, the leaves decay and fall, and nature again assume the barren and bleak appearance it had worn when I first beheld the woods and the lovely moon. Yet I did not heed the bleakness of the weather; I was better fitted by my conformation for the endurance of cold than heat. But my chief delights were the sight of the flowers, the birds, and the gay apparel of summer..." (132)
-In this quote, nature is a motif for the bad emotions that he is undergoing. In other words, the season of autumn and the briskness of it brought cold bitter emotions. As winter is the season following autumn, and it says "nature again assumes the barren and bleak appearance" it shows how with this season comes more darker emotions. And at the end of the quote, it says how summer brings on the flowers and birds of which brings a more serene scenery rather than the bareness of winter that brings sadness. All of this shows how nature for the monster brings out different emotions and develops his character.

I agree with what you have here but the wording is a bit off. This is really about how nature is a REFLECTION of their emotions.

- "These were wild and miserable thoughts, but I cannot describe to you how the eternal twinkling of the stars weighed upon me and how I listened to every blast of wind as if it were a full ugly siroc on its way to consume me" (151)
-This quote portrays the motif of nature and in this instance the darkness that comes with the night. When it says eternal twinkling stars it's inferring the evening and associates wild and miserable thoughts with it, insinuating how the scenery of nature at night can bring arise your inner demons and the feelings buried deep within you, all of which are part of character development for the monster. As it also says "every blast of wind as if it were a a full ugly siroc on its way to consume me" shows how the wind intimidates him in a way as this part of nature isn't as peaceful so therefore brings on and represents the bad emotions that come his way when it gets dark and cold.

-- again this is about how nature is a reflection of what is happening.

- "The sight of the awful and majestic in nature had indeed always the effect of solemnizing my mind and causing me to forget the passing cares of life." (93)
-This quote represents the significance of the character's relationship with nature as it shows how nature can help him forget about "the passing cares of life" as it serves as a healthy distraction and escapes from ongoing issues that often resurface that can be put on hold when with nature. As for him nature brings on peace and helps him think clearly and more carefully as he is more at peace with himself and content.

- "Their icy and glittering peaks shone in the sunlight over the clouds. My heart, which was before sorrowful, now swelled with something like joy" (95)
-This quote is showing the significance of the relationship that the characters in Frankenstein have with nature as it shows the heavy impact that nature has on these characters and the healing that it brings them. Something as simple as the glittering effect that is shown went he sunlight hits the peaks does so much healing as it was described as "before sorrowful" and now it "swelled with something like joy" which really solidifies the way nature can truly heal these characters and the consistent healthy relationship they all share with nature, as it helps them do better humane actions.

All in all, throughout the story nature is shown as a consistent healing method for all of the characters in Frankenstein, as they all share a healthy relationship with it. Consistently nature is affiliated with the good decisions that come out of these characters and helps them develop as characters as when they are reunited with nature they are at peace and with that comes good thoughts and better decisions.
