Art can interest you if you try to look beyond appearance, and try to interpret meaning from it. The article ‘What to See in New York Art Galleries This Week’ by The New York Times is about encouraging people to see these unique artworks. There are four artworks that can be seen in this article made by different artists individual or in groups. There is Erica Baum’s peculiar photograph of activity instructions, “make believe” consisting of: Left, Kerry Tribe's “Ceiling Light (Monstera deliciosa),” from 2018, modified lighting equipment and potted plant; and right, Sayre Gomez's “Behind Door #9” (2018), acrylic and urethane-based paints on canvas over panel, Leah Guadagnoli's “Dear Parvati” Sculptural piece, and finally Anna Plesset's installation “Travelogue (21st Century Room)” in the three-person show “Place/Image/Object.” I really like these pieces because they stand out more uniquely than most typical artworks.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/30/arts/design/what-to-see-in-new-york-art-galleries-this-week.html?rref=collection%2Ftimestopic%2FArt

Bowling ball physics are very fascinating when you just stare down the lane and watch the ball go. I remember the first time when I was two and watched my dad throw his hook ball down the lane and then he helped me throw a house ball down the lane for my turn. I’ve bowled since I was two and I’m turning sixteen in March; the first time I used a hook ball was when I was ten and that same year I reached my first high game of 188 throughout the 15 games I bowled that night while my mom was in a league. I just recently reached a higher score of 227 which is higher than my dad’s, and I did it with a 14 lb ball which may seem light but really isn’t in the sport of bowling. Bowling is a fun sport anyone can do whether they’re good or not. The max score you can get is 300. There’s unlimited options of custom bowling balls, shoes, gloves, wrist brace, thumb tape, thumb powder, and towels; Oh and don’t let me forget the bags.

Author Josh made and article about turtles and how they are in trouble. We the people need to help the turtles because without them we won't be able to do my thing or even show our kids when we grow up. Turtle have been endangered for such a long time. If we keep using plastic including straws we will kill all the turtles. We should care about our ocean and lakes because animals and other critters live in it. Now a days when you go to a lake all you see is brown water and when you touch the bitten it’s slimy and dirty. Imagine living in that nasty water not being able to do anything about your home. I think us like people should clean after ourselves to help out the turtles and we should try to not us straws in any way. Yes it will be hard but it is possible.

The two writers of Doctor Who aren’t enemies like everyone thinks. They are friends and enjoy spending time together. “I think people half expect us to be rivals and enemies, but we love each other,” said Russell T Davies to radiotimes.com. These former writers who created doctor who together love working together and made many great things. Doctor who is the longest running sci-fi show in the world and Moffat and Davies did an amazing job preserving keeping this BBC show going. Even though they don’t create the show anymore, they still enjoying talking to each other about the monsters and story of doctor who. They both said they love being able to enjoy the show as fans.

Miles of coral reefs have been dying down all over the world. In the article inside the search for a coral killer Sarah Davies talks about how coral has been dying once you get about 70ft deep. Oil and other toxic things are being spilled into the oceans water and killing the reefs making the water could and toxic once you get about 70ft deep. When researchers were looking at the coral they found Dead Sea urchin and all the crab and other fish were living closer to the top to escape the toxins where the coral is vibrant orange yellow and red. “The dead zone covered six and a half acres, and in much of that area it damaged 70 percent of coral“. This article is important because according to the article it says that the coral will help with the high seas. If the coral dies off we are more likely to get higher tieds and also the animals will have limited resources and space to live. The coral dying off can contaminate the waters and cause damage to not only the animals but the land as well.

The temperatures are dropping fast on the East Coast, which is endangering lots of wildlife in the ocean. In the article “Cold stuns turtles off NC beaches. Volunteers work to find them before it’s too late” by Charles Duncan the author talks about the low temperatures and how many volunteers have to race against time in order to save the turtles from being stunned or being killed by this freezing water. Now that people are becoming more cautious about pollutions and the way it’s affecting the turtles population, I think it is very important that we are taking these precautions about the turtles being safe and being stunned. One source shows a Kemp’s ridley turtle in a video and the video notes it was “cold and limp”. A Kemp’s ridley turtle is the most endangered sea turtle. So it is very important to keep the turtle population healthy and alive, taking these precautions to help the turtles during this very cold winter is very important to keep them alive.

Many people have tried going on a diet and failed miserably. In an Insider, Courtney Leiva makes an article on “10 food and drink swaps that aren't as healthy as you think”, about food alternatives that aren’t healthy. Some people don’t know about how these food alternatives are just as unhealthy as the other. This is important to know, because when people are on a diet, they are trying to reach the goal of being healthier than how they were before. An example of an unhealthy food swap is organic foods: "Organic labeling are standards based on livestock or ingredient sourcing, but not based on nutrition facts," said registered dietitian Julie Upton, MS, RD in the article. In conclusion, it is best if you eat as much natural and homemade healthy food as possible in your diet.

The word “ballerina” brings a picture of a tutu and a dancer on the tips of her toes. What most don’t see are the broken bones, bloody toes, and hours upon hours of rehearsals. Through the pain and hardship, ballet is usually a short career, but a dancer’s careers is not over when the performance ends. The Seattle Times article, Former Pacific Northwest Ballet dancers with unconventional second careers, by Moira Macdonald explores the opportunities of retired dancers. A few dancers from the Pacific Northwest Ballet have stepped out of the spotlight and started a new career. Chalnessa Eams was a ten year soloist for PNB. She opened a local fitness center balled MyFituals. Liora Neuville became a transplant nurse after seven years of ballet. After ten years of being onstage, Josh Spell became a social worker and therapist at Overlake Hospital. On average, ballerinas dance professionally for about ten years. After becoming a professional ballerina at the age of 13, and then being deemed unable to dance after exponential injuries a few years later, it is good to know that I can continue having a career either in dance or not.

Shoe trends

Shoes have been around for millions and millions of years. There are many varieties of shoes there are sandals, boots, heels, tennis shoes, even water shoes. Recently there have been designers that have made a few changes that have become popular trends. People might be mad about it but others love it. In the short article Independent.co the author Olivia Petter reported the newest trend; hiking boots. According to the article “demand for the style among its female shoppers as we descend into colder climes, with hiking boots accounting for nearly 20 per cent of shoe sales on the site so far this season”. There is truth to this statement but I do not agree that this should be the biggest trend in 2019

Children using knives in the kitchen. “Should Toddlers Be Using Knives” by Liz Lane’s news article, states a two year old toddler helping her cut vegetables in the kitchen. The article informs you about how Kathleen Frank, mother of Quincy Frank taught her two year old son how to cut vegetables with a knife. She started young Quincy on a butter knife and banana and showed him how to properly hold the knife and the item he’s cutting. It shows you how young children can be trusted cutting items in the kitchen if properly taught. I believe this is a bad idea because these children as young as two holding a sharp object is not safe, because what if at any moment the child slips and cuts himself the end result could be bad. I have an eight year old brother, and we still don’t let him use a knife because we don’t think it’s safe because of anything bad that could happen if he was messing around, slip, or isn’t paying attention. Most children have small attention spans, so what would happen if the child moved fast with the knife in their hand and someone wasn’t around. There are to many unsafe reasons young kids to toddlers shouldn’t be allowed to use a knife in the kitchen or just in general. In the article, “Should Toddlers Be Using Knives” states, “At one point, he places his other hand on top of the blade to help push it through the vegetable.” By using two hands on the knife what if his finger got in the way when he was pushing down and he chops the top of his finger off. There can be many problems with that including child protection services because these parents are letting a toddler use a knife. I believe that children should not be using knives in the kitchen.

In the news it stated that Harvey ended up sniffing out three kittens that were stuck in a storm drain! Along with harvey finding the kittens, it also stated the kittens names. Their names are ‘Brewster, Beta, and Bree.’ Also, it stated that they are all up for adoption! In my opinion, im glad that Harvey found the kittens.

Baseball legend Jackie Robinson changed the game of baseball for the country. This is on the news because this is the 100th anniversary of his birthday. Jackie was signed to the Dodgers and became one of the first black people to play major league baseball. In the article, For Baseball and the Country, Jackie Robinson Changed the Game by George Vecsey, the author describes how Jackie Robinson pushed for opportunities for black people in every business. During Jackie Robinson’s career, he made an impact on Americans because they began to understand how black people can be gifted athletes and excel in businesses. “Black sports fans now had a new hero excelling in mixed company”. This inspired musicians to songs about Jackie Robinson. The article suggests that Jackie Robinson was an example for other people, such as Rosa Parks, Muhammad Ali, and Barack Obama. It’s great that people like Jackie Robinson changed the course of history and began a journey of equality for all.
