I am feeling both excited and nervous about this assignment at the moment. The first activity of the 80 ideas means that I will have to push myself creatively to think of so many different possibilities that I could form my assignment around. This will be challenging for me as I don't consider myself to be a very creative person, but I hope there will be activities or exercises that I'll be able to do that will help me to think outside of the box. The research and planning of a video should be good as I will eventually end up with a topic that I like and am passionate about. The video itself is what I am most excited about as I have created similar things in the past when I was at school and I really enjoyed creating and producing them. I already have a few ideas in mind, but nothing that I am set on just yet. I am eager to promote something that I am passionate about and to push myself to come up with many different ideas to explore, even if it might seem impossible right now.

Therapy can be expensive and many people may feel afraid or be too shy to talk to someone in person, or they may simply not have time. I have identified that the age range will be people who are between 15 - 30 years old. It is quite a large range, but I believe that it is appropriate as the target demographic is also people that understand how to use technology and the internet, and those who may not have the money to pay for therapy. This age range includes both adolescents and those in early adulthood which are both stages of life where people start finding work and may be struggling with money. Mental health also becomes a significant factor during these times. Puberty begins for younger people and as adulthood starts, life begins to change rapidly and can become difficult. Many need someone to talk to so that they can figure life out which is why I have chosen this particular age group. Regarding geographic location, the video is targeted towards people from anywhere in the world if they have access to the internet. My video will promote this message with the intention of helping or saving people's lives and improving their mental health. My target audience will definitely be similar to those from other advertisements which promote related ideas as my chosen age range consists of the most common ages where people develop mental illness.

Both the message and vibe are similar to how I want my video to be portrayed. It represents how what other people say may influence someone's decision to seek help with their mental health. The people talking have little understanding of mental illnesses such as depression and believe they are helping by saying that you should simply "cheer up!".

‌

The Mission Group 2020, My Online Therapy: My Real Face, video, Youtube, 7 May, viewed on 17 March 2023,
<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=it2y_LWD9VQ>.

This video inspired me as it includes a similar message that I am promoting. displays how people who are struggling put up a front to hide from other people how they are really feeling on the inside or when they are alone. Someone can appear as though they are the happiest and most joyful person ever, but they may just be bottling up how they feel and everything that may be bothering them. This is why online therapy is helpful as it is a way for people to open up without having to feel extremely vulnerable by talking to someone in person.

BetterHelp 2021, "Open Up" -BetterHelp, video, Youtube, 10 February, viewed on 19 March 2023, <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_Ib6SmpIFQ>.

This video is not the tone that I want to achieve but has a similar message once again. It shows a girl having a panic attack but is made to look like a horror movie to convey her extreme paranoia. She eventually opens her laptop and the online therapy website is narrated asking her to open it up. This video depicts an example of someone who would not be able to attend a therapist in person and has access to one while she needs it most and is struggling.

This is the colour palette I have decided on for my promotional video. As it will be set in a park I opted for lots of greens for the grass and blue for the sky. the colours are relatively bright as the video does start off with the two having a picnic so I wanted to encapsulate the happy colours from that. I did not want them to be too bold as it would be overwhelming and not match the vibe or tone of the video. it is lighthearted but not necessarily happy, but I also wanted the colours to be colourful and to stay that way as a sign of optimism. Although the girl in the video is going through something tough there is always light at the end of the rainbow and for this reason, I feel the colours should remain bright and distinct.

Schreiber, K 2015, Here’s Why Everyone (Even Happy People) Can Benefit From Therapy, Greatist, <https://greatist.com/grow/surprising-benefits-therapy>.‌

T‌his article lists reasons that therapy is beneficial whilst answering several questions and concerns that people frequently have. You should not wait to go to therapy until the problems in your life get worse. When a problem arises it is good to talk it out earlier before your mental state is negatively impacted. Therapists are solely there to help anyone who seeks it. They will not be biased or judgemental and the process can be as simple as learning more about yourself, including your wants, needs and goals, and can improve your relationships and mental health as well. This article includes information that I would like to convey in my own promotional video to make others aware of the benefits of therapy and to give them more understanding of it and why it is recommended.

Seatter, M 2021, Top Reasons Why Everyone Should Go To Therapy, Circle Magazine, <https://magazine.circledna.com/top-reasons-why-everyone-should-go-to-therapy/>.

This article speaks about how online awareness of therapy has had a significant impact on erasing the negative stigma around mental health and getting support. If more people went to therapy, then those suffering from mental health issues would ultimately feel more comfortable attending. It is estimated that 1 in 10 people suffer from a mental illness. This article suggests that in reality, this fraction is much smaller as there are many people who are undiagnosed. This is due to the high amount of people who have not spoken to a mental health professional before about how they are feeling. I can understand how some people would be afraid of going to therapy to face their problems, but I believe more people should push themselves to try. I want my video to acknowledge this and show people that they do not have to be scared, that they are supported and accepted and there are many others going through the same thing.

Borenstein, J 2020, Stigma, Prejudice and Discrimination Against People with Mental Illness, American Psychiatric Association, <https://www.psychiatry.org/patients-families/stigma-and-discrimination>.

‌This article discusses the negative stigma around mental health which stops many people from seeking help. They fear that they will be treated differently if they do see a therapist. This stigma stems from a lack of understanding of mental illness which causes people to be judgemental. Educating people on mental illness and what comes along with helping to treat it should help them to understand and stop discriminating against those who are suffering from it. For my video, I want my audience to understand that therapy primarily benefits them and that what other people think about it should not impact their decision. Therapy should be normalised as there is such a large population of people who suffer from mental illnesses.

I will explore my topic further using these six thinking hats.

A free online therapy website which promotes the message that therapy is for everyone.

Process - Blue Hat:
I must think about how my video will look and what approach I will have. How can I convey my message in a way that will catch the audience's attention? How can I create an unskippable 30-second advertisement?

Facts - White Hat:
The information that many people are afraid of seeking help for their mental health due to negative stigmas. I know that therapy is extremely beneficial and that not enough people attend due to inaccessibility or not being able to afford it.

Feelings - Red Hat:
I hope that I do not badly represent therapy or mental health in my promotional video. I do feel like I have done a substantial amount of research to back up any facts that I may use or things that I say.

Creativity - Green Hat:
Regarding what I expressed under the black hat, I will be cautious to not state anything in my video that will joke about something that should be serious.

Benefits - Yellow Hat:
It is important that I emphasise that my online website is free in my video. I want to potentially have several rhetorical questions to make the audience think and to make my video memorable.

Cautions - Black Hat
Some risks could be that my video may come across as though I am not taking the topic seriously enough as it will have a lighthearted tone. Speaking about mental illnesses can be difficult if I have not experienced them myself.

Attention:
I could capture the audience's attention by initially surprising them with a girl being broken up with by her boyfriend. This will cause people to be shocked and wonder what will happen next or even what is being advertised to them.

Interest:
the video could follow with the boy and the background pausing, but the girl continues to move and talk. She's slightly upset and walks as the camera follows her. She can say things or ask the audience questions such as, "What am I going to do? I loved him so much!... He was the only person I felt comfortable talking about my feelings with."

Desire:
She could say these things and not explicitly mention therapy. The tone will still be lighthearted and comedic, although she is sad. She will be talking in a more rational tone where she is actually asking the questions, rather than being taken over by emotion. The storyline should hook the audience in as they wonder how she will get through it and if she will be okay. Some people may be able to relate to this girl and she may also mention her financial status and how she does not have the money to go to therapy. This will target the desired audience.

Action:
At the end, there will be a call to action where the therapy website name will pop up and a little slogan encouraging people to visit it. After watching the video they should be inclined to at least consider and look into it. I want the audience to take action and give therapy a go.

My promotional video will present that both, people who suffer from mental health problems and those who do not, are both equally worthy of attending therapy.

It begins with a shot of a girl and a boy facing each other, captured in a wide shot. They are standing in a park, on a picnic blanket which they were just sat on, shown by the half-eaten sandwiches and fruit. The boy is on the left side of the screen angled away from the camera so the audience can only see his back and some of his side profile. The girl is also on an angle as the two are parallel, but the whole front of her body and face can be seen. He tells her that he is breaking up with her and she becomes visibly upset. The camera zooms in more to capture her face as she reacts through a close-up. She breathes heavily and the camera slowly zooms back out to a medium shot so just the top halves of their bodies can be seen.

He walks away and the camera moves right so that she is centred on the screen. "What just happened?" she asks and begins to walk speaking to the camera and asking rhetorical questions. She states, "What am I going to do? I loved him so much!... He was the only person I felt comfortable talking about my feelings with." Revealing that she now has no one to talk to. She suggests that she could go to therapy but then shakes her head saying that she is just overexaggerating and it is not that big of a deal.

This is all filmed in one shot as the girl continuously walks and talks as though she is having a conversation with the person watching. She walks away concluding that she will just have to try and move on, even though it is clear that she is still upset by the breakup. The camera pans upwards towards the sky and the words show up on the screen being narrated. "It is actually that big of a deal, so if you ever need someone to talk to try Brightmind for free online therapy. No problem is too big or too small." it abruptly cuts back to the girl looking up, as though she was listening and looking at the words in the sky. She looks back down so her gaze reaches the camera and says, "Did they say free, maybe I should give it a try". The credits roll.
