For example, in an Art classroom that is studying a particular period in Art history, a virtual trip to see pieces from that period can connect the learning to the real world. In any classroom, a virtual tour of a place related to content can enrich an activity. 

I do not, however, believe that a virtual tour can necessarily supplant a physical field trip. I think that actual field trips are still necessary sometimes for the sake of students learning Social Skills through public outings and connecting to culture physically. Some students do not have the opportunity to experiences places like museums outside of school, and it is important to integrate field trips when possible. Obviously a field trip cannot happen for every unit, though. So videos of places and virtual tours are definitely a key resource for classrooms.
