They also got the advantage of new social services and opportunities, such as low mortgage loans, free educational opportunities and job placement. What we learned after reading this article was that even though many Mexican Americans helped tremendously in the war, after the war many were welcomed but it sadly only lasted a little while due to discrimination. Martinez from Colorado. He was a leader of a dangerous mission charging up the snow-covered mountain of the Aleutian Island Attu. He was the first draftee to serve with courage but he made a decision to enter a minefield where he  single-handedly attacked an enemy stronghold in France.
