They created it by using tree sap and smoking it over a fire to take the water out. after learning about latex European explorers started using it for waterproofing.  Before using the rubber in ways we use it today they found out that you could use it as an eraser for lead pencils. After spending five years of trial and error and coming up with only error he accidentally spilled some Latex mixed with sulfur on a hot stove and it started to char evenly and he applied extreme heat and cold and it did not melt or become brittle.  One of the effects of this is that the demand for rubber skyrocketed and the consumption went from 38 tons a year to 8,000 tons a year. They started using rubber for wire insulation and rubber tires. They started using rubber conveyor belts for production. They called it vulcanization because they named it after the Roman god of fire, Vulcan. Without him your tires would just turn into a heated mess in the summer or crack and fall apart in the winter. Another thing that Vulcanized rubber has been used for is waterproofing. before him you would have to buy a new raincoat multiple times a year.
