PSY117 Week 5 "Quiz" by Russel Gatdula

Here are scenarios related to netiquette, identify how we can address or how we can avoid being put in this scenarios.

How should this be avoided?
1.There is an activity posted in the teams channel that requires students to post answers in the discussion board. During the online discussion, a student named jack replies to the message and his response can be seen by everyone subscribed to the post. In his reply, jack quotes his fellow classmate Jill. Jill replies to Jack and claims that she never wrote the words that jack has said about her. This begins a long running argument that becomes vulgar at times, between jack and Jill.
2. How to handle this situation?
A student posts the following question in ms team:
“I am having a problem with saving using C++. I cannot create the .cpp file, can anyone help me?”
Another student responds to the query quite acidly:
“YOU IDIOT! How the heck did you make it through the selection process? It’s so easy my little sister can do it! Why not quit now and save yourself some embarrassment and head down to the elementary school where you belong?”
3. How should this be avoided?
Jameson is tired of working on his project and decides to surf the Net for a while. He comes across a site that he thinks is funny. He is amused by it and forwards it IN THE Group chat of his classmates. Unfortunately, not everyone is amused by the humor. Certain students are offended by the content of the site and they bring this to the attention of the teacher and the Dean of Students.

Answer:
1. Accept responsibility for the situation so that you take blame out of the discussion. When you take blame out of the conversation, it gets easier to solve the problem. Some people will say: “What if the miscommunication wasn't my fault?” I would say that I rarely see a miscommunication that is completely one-sided.
2.Be honest. The best way to give help is to simply tell the other person what you need. ...Choose the best method. ...
3:The act of taking offense, or feeling offended, often occurs due to an experience of negative emotions. These negative feelings and emotions are often caused by a word, action, or statement that conflicts with our expectations and what we believe to be the right behavior, in a moral and acceptable.Having hurt feelings or being offended is a choice. Allowing another person to hurt your feelings or allowing someone to offend you is nothing short of self-imposed mental cruelty, use polite words that can create a beautiful mindset of others,is a must

For me in this situation it's better to check or watch your action specially if your word is very private, just do a private message to that person instead of chat in your group messages.
2. In this situation let's be polite to everyone specially in this midst of pandemic because sometimes we are having trouble in internet so better help your classmates if they ask for it.
3. Nowadays be aware of what you share in your group chat because we are not sure of what our other classmates think about we share sometimes it got offended for them.

1. In my opinion, to handle and settle things down between Jill and Jack, their lecturer should put himself in the middle. Make them Jack apologize for what he did and the same with Jill. Their lecturer may discuss the said situation after their class, privately to avoid things getting out of hand. It is the only way to settle it. Students should be cautious in everything they say in an online discussion.

2. If I was in that position, to handle situation like that, I won't talk back the way he talk to me, because that would be rude of me. I'll make myself clear and ask him not to scream in messages, my approach is n a way more respectful than what he gave me. To finally avoid something like this, I'll search on the internet to avoid disturbing somebody.

3. This is quite insensitive of him, but to avoid something like this to happen, in my experience. If he's being distracted by some funny meme on the internet, he should not let his classmates know about that and mind his own business. Not everyone is happy about not being attentive in class. Some are trying to focus and being serious in class. To avoid this, he should be sensitive to what others may think and consider others perspective. It might be funny to some, but it may offend many who can't relate to it. So be sensitive in every messages you send to groups.

PSY117 - Santos, Adrea Kaith A.

To avoid that maybe he should not send that to the gc with his classmates because of course there are person who are not close to him and have their own beliefs he should just send it to the person close to him that he thinks will understand and will think that is funny or the option is hw should take his study seriously .

Establishing and equipping national helplines to support children and young people in reporting violence is a concrete step. Training teachers and parents to respond to and prevent bullying will ensure the safety of children and young people, particularly the most vulnerable ones. Violence against children, in all forms including online bullying or cyberbullying, has devastating effects on the physical and emotional wellbeing of young people. This can create lasting emotional and psychological scars, even physical harm. It is particularly challenging to address since children are vulnerable and have easy access to the internet, making them easy targets of online violence.

Having manners online or netiquette is a must.

Anyone could be kicked out of any social group if they engage in any form of verbal abuse online. Such inappropriate comments will almost certainly be deleted, as page moderators will surely monitor them but as an individual, your personality and attitude will never be forgotten. We should always use respectful language and be patient especially when it is for school.

Calling someone insulting names, cursing them out, or expressing intentionally hurtful beliefs towards someone is unacceptable. If you got nothing nice to say then don't say it. This rule applies to social media platforms, forums, chat rooms, and emails.

Keep in mind that it's just what you say to a person but also how you say it that can be considered rude. For example, text in all caps is commonly interpreted as yelling or intimidating someone. It is important to educate but not to the point where we belittle someone for being wrong. Remember to say please and thank you when necessary. "Do not say or do anything online that you would not say or do in person."

Before you write a comment or a status update, consider if you would feel safe saying the same thing to everyone who will see it face to face.

Following netiquette helps us build stronger bonds with the people we care about while also safeguarding our professional reputation. Cyberbullying can be reduced by following proper internet etiquette. Protecting other people's privacy and securing your sensitive information requires effective online information-sharing tactics.

1. To avoid situation like Jack and Jill has. Avoid spreading false information or false witness online. It can spread untruth as fast as it can spread truth. Putting out false "information" to the world is bad. For instance, spreading false rumors about Jill just like Jack does is wrong.

2. To handle the situation. We/You should help to keep flame wars under control. What that student says to his/her fellow student who's having a hard time using the C++ to save is so mean. We should explain to that student that instead saying inappropriate words like that he/she should help his/her classmate since his/her classmate ask nicely to help him/her.

3.

1. In the first scenario, Jack should double-check his facts before sending something like that to Jill. To avoid such a problem between them, it is also necessary to always remember the word "think before you type." It is important to examine what you said and try to be objective in your interpretation.

2. It is inappropriate for you to speak negatively to someone in the second scenario. You should establish a respectful tone and teach him something he does not already know, especially if you are using online tools. Be courteous and professional. When you communicate online, you have a level of anonymity that you don't have when you talk to someone in person. When people disagree with one another, this can sometimes lead to rude behavior.
Even if you disagree with someone, make an effort to be kind and respectful in your comments.

3. Sarcasm has been the source of many misguided arguments online in the third scenario, as it can be extremely difficult to understand the commenter's intent. What may appear to you to be an obvious joke may come across as offensive or rude to those who do not know you personally. As a general rule, sarcasm should be avoided in an online classroom. To avoid these issues, lean toward being polite and direct in your communication.

In my opinion, in the first scenario, we need to respect one another, especially when it comes to online discussion. We need to follow and practice netiquette, or computer ethics, in the online class. And we need to talk or verify it directly with the person in case it needs to be clear on both sides. In the second scenario, we need to adhere to the same standard of behavior online that we follow in real life. We should extend our hand to others, especially to those who need help, and we also need to control any rudeness so that it won't cause any misunderstandings. Lastly, we need to be thoughtful and aware when forwarding any messages because everyone is busy, especially those people whose time is precious. We could apply the netiquette golden rule in each situation.

Answer: Jack shouldn't use the name of Jill in his comment in the first place. Instead, he should bravely claim his own words rather than involving Jill's name.

2. How to handle this situation? A student posts the following question in ms team: “I am having a problem with saving using C++. I cannot create the .cpp file, can anyone help me?” Another student responds to the query quite acidly: “YOU IDIOT! How the heck did you make it through the selection process? It’s so easy my little sister can do it! Why not quit now and save yourself some embarrassment and head down to the elementary school where you belong?”

Answer: Instead of mocking someone who doesn't know how to make file, teach them in nice way and clearly so next time he/she will know how to create file. Be respectful always and remember that your classmates are human also who are affected by the words you say and write. She/he will not ask if she/he know how to do that. Help him/her instead of mocking them.

Answer: Jameson should careful with his humor because not everyone has the same preferences of what jokes are funny and what is not. He should consider first that his class is maybe made up of people of all ages and cultures who have varied backgrounds and lifestyles and he think carefully if his jokes are not offending to his classmates. If he thinks that it will offend someone he should keep to himself that specific joke.
