After making the lands into one dominion the colonies wanted a railroad that goes through all of the dominion, they thought it would be used to transport goods and/or military purposes against the south.

The United States also wanted the land, but Canada knew to take action once the United States claimed the red river territory.

The USA could not be a source of market after the reciprocity agreement, which was the treaty between the United States and uk which was in if the British should have the land in North’s america.

There were issues with the economy, military, and independence. One of the main issues was that in the American Civil war, Canada's british colonies helped the man, causing americans to be angry and led to their interest in Canada. In order to defend their land, these British colonies needed to united as one, and gain independence as one country.
