SiNLP comes with a minimal set of indices about your text. Some of these are very sensitive to text length, but others (word length, sentence length, and to some extent number of types) can be useful. The gem is that you can very easily use a custom list dictionary containing up to 20 sets of words, e.g. words from current textbook unit, modals, etc.. Check SiNLP's Readme file for formatting details).

There are various ways to assess your students' vocabulary size or level - here's the "Vocabulary Size Test" if you want to check your students' levels BEFORE you start processing vocabulary resources for them. There are some test on LexTutor https://www.lextutor.ca/tests/ Another approach is to get samples of students' writing in plain text files and use SiNLP or similar to judge vocabulary levels without overt testing. Kristofer Kyle's TAALES (more up to date) or CRAT tools will give you a LOT of information about lexical sophistication.
