The after math and consequence of them doing this is that it makes them go through some pretty traumatic experiences which effects there life quite a bit. When they come home, jammy and tommos mates help them try to get back into the normal flow of things but that doesn’t end very well. When reading this novel I felt like the target audience would be a mature teen to a young adult. The Afghanistan war started by the traumatic event known as 911 this event happened on September 11 2001 here was a lot of international pressure on the afghan leaders to hand over Osama Bin Laden. This could be witnessing a family member die or it could be traumatic experiences such as events from war the person experiences of intense fear and helplessness or horror. ‘’ You killed him, he spat. You killed him. Fear flooded me I hadn’t a clue who this was I was fighting. Jamm’s dog tags were dangling on my face as he squeezed, but this wasn’t my brother’’. This highlights typical behavior of returned soldiers suffering with (PTSD). Information researched from the Anxiety and Depression Association of America similarly highlights this behavior as typical of someone suffering from PTSD. Re-experiencing the trauma through intrusive distressing recollections of the event, flashbacks, and nightmares. People with PTSD have more problems with drugs and alcohol before and after getting PTSD. Also, even if someone does not have a problem with alcohol before a traumatic event, getting PTSD increases the risk that he or she will develop a drinking or drug problem. For example in the book heroic is when jammy is drinking to much with the boys which changes his mood and makes him angrier. Alcohol abuse is a pretty common thing in real life it mostly effects the war victims who have had traumatic experiences and don’t have any other way to stop thinking about it so they result to alcohol.
