The league was doomed to fail at the start as there were structural weakness within the league which includes the lack of authority and credibility and the limited membership. The lack of authority and credibility caused them to no work well well together and it was hard to take effective actions. There were only 42 countries that joined the league but only a few was a permanent member, many other European countries were facing economic problems and militarily weak because of world war 1. Furthermore, USA, Germany and the Soviet Union were not allowed to join the league. Germany and the Soviet Union were seen as threats and therefore are not allowed to join. Thus, the power of the league was not very strong as the big powers were not part of it. Therefore, it was doomed to fail from the start

Medina The League of Nations set good goals for themselves through the 14 points which gained them National support. They were also able to make Greece and Yugoslavia withdraw from invading Bulgaria and Albania respectively and they also resolved the conflict between Finland and Sweden over the Aaland islands by deciding to give it to Finland. They also split the people of Upper Silesia into 2 groups,Germany and Poland,as they could not decide which country to go to.Therefore, the League of Nations were not doomed to fail from the start as they were able to solve some of the world problems. They only failed because of bad decisions made later on such as Manchuria and Abyssinia.

the League of Nations were very closely linked to the Treaty of Versailles (TOV) and thus have structural weaknesses such as limited membership in which was that only a certain countries were to join. An example would be USA who originally came up with the idea of the league but was not part of it as they opposed to the idea of the TOV and preferred to engage in foreign affairs on their own terms. This lead to league having no military support or economic back-up and eventually being unable to prevent wars or invasions of the different countries.

Another point was that authorisation for any action taken would required

from the start, the league already had a fault in its structure. Firstly, parts of the league did not work well together. For example, the Secretariat was under-staffed and disorganised, the conference of ambassadors made decisions that should have been made by the league itself and the General Assembly and Council did not have a defined relationship. As a result, the lack of uniformity and communication have led to the downfall of the league. Secondly, the
league lacked authority and credibility. This is because it was too closely associated with the Treaty of Versailles and peacekeeping measures by the league were inadequate. Due to the unclear roles among the authorised and their lack of drive to maintain peace anong the nations, the league was doomed to fail.

Yes it was doomed to fall because they had limited membership and lack of authority. They did not work well together and was hard to take effective action. Working relationship between General Assembly and the Council was not clearly defined. Authorisation required a unanimous vote by the Council and a two third majority vote in the Assembly because there is so many nations represented in the league so it was hard to obtain unanimous consent for any decision

The League of Nations was not doomed to fail because from 1920 to 1923, it did have some power in deciding territorial disputes. In 1920,Yugoslavia tried to take over albania.the league eventually made Yugoslavia withdraw. In 1921, Blth Germany and Poland wanted upper Silesia.the league split upper Silesia into two. In 1921,Both Finland and Sweden wanted the aaland islands. They accepted the decision of the league to give the islands to Finland. In 1923, Lithuania invaded Memel . The league gave Memel some independence. In 1925, both Greece a nd Bulgaria disputed the border drawn between them at the end of the war.The league made Greece withdraw after Greece invaded Bulgaria. This shows that the league achieved success in some of the territorial disputes and could even make Greece withdraw in 1925 after its decline in 1923.This shows that the league was not doomed to fail in the beginning because it succeeded in solving disputes and keeping peace at the start of its establishment

The League of Nations was not doomed to fail from the start.

- The league initially succeded in setting up essential commisions and committees, which gave the impression that the LoN looked promising, and showed the league as being committed to improving standards.

—> International Labour Organization was worked on and developed to improve working conditions worldwide. It was successful in persuading governments to set maximum working day and week, adequate minimum wages and introduced old age pensions, unemployment and sickness benefits.

—> Refugee Organisation solved the problem of POWs marooned in Russia after WW1. 500k returned home, and help was sent to those fleeing from Germany.

—> WHO was successful in combating typhus in Russia, (which actually could have spread to the whole of Europe) as well as other major epidemics and found their causes.

- The LoN was a new approach at world peace, and as such people all over the world looked up to it and perceived it to be helpful.

- Its aims were excellent, thus it garnered support from the world. 42 countries joined voluntarily, meaning that they liked and supported the LoN, and 16 countries joined later on.

- LoN was successful in solving certain territorial disputes which could have led to conflict or even war. Some examples include the dispute between the Greek-Bulgarian border and the Aaland Islands. Once again, this gave hope and looked promising, and it did not look like it was going to fail.

Th league was not doomed to fail as one of their aims was to maintain world peace and security. As Article 11 of the league’s covenant states that ‘any war is a matter of concern to the the whole League and the League shall take action that may safeguard peace’. This means that all the members of the League would work together to maintain world peace by prevent wars and conflicts. This was successful as the League succeeded to resolve some territorial disputes, such as the failed invasion of Albania by Yugoslavia in 1920, in which the Leaugue made Yugoslavia withdraw, and the Aaland Islands dispute in 1921, where Finland and Sweden both wanted the islands and took the dispute to the League, and the League accepted the descision to give the islands to Finland. This shows that the League had been successful in achieving their aim of maintaining peace by preventing wars and conflicts.

It is doomed to fall as it did not have a military to reinforce its decision. This caused them to rely on Britain and France which led to them being lenient to such countries. The practice is of unanimous votes would have also contributed to their fall.As countries like Japan and Italy joined the league to only expand their territories. Therefore, it was most likely that they would only vote for movements that only benefited their country.

The Central Powers, the losers of World War 1, belived that the League of Nations was set up as an organisation for the allies, as it was established with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles. This was further reinforced when Germany was not allowed to join the League of Nations as they were seen as a threat to the allies and were only allowed to join after a long period of time. This discoordination and disagreements between the European Powers after the war hampered the League’s chance to resolve conflicts between the nations and doomed it to fail in the long run.

Moreover, the League of Nations failed due to the post war attitudes of the European powers. As the European powers refused to compromise their own economic and military interests, the League, without its members, was only able to make a minute difference in the conflicts it had to handle in its lifespan. As a result, it failed to resolve many of the crisises it handled to the reluctance of other countries to intervene was ultimately led to the Second World War. Therefore, the attitudes of the members of the League of Nations was the downfall of the organisation.

E.g The League was not doomed to fail from the start as it was grounded in the right principles. These were reflected in the fourteen points and the League's covenant. However, the League's authority was undermined when the bigger powers started to defy the authority of the League in the 1930s. For example, Japan and Italy left the League when they were questioned by the League. Such actions questioned her credibility leading to her failure.
