Growing up, my entire family used to be fond of how pale my skin was. They kept complimenting me, calling me certain names, which my mother and yaya would then respond to, "Purya buyag!" I remember how my mom used to tell me that the reason as to why my skin was so pale was because she bathed me with milk as an infant. Is that really possible?

This is a photo of me and my papa. He was the scariest but, at the same time, sweetest person in the entire world. I recall when he would teach me the alphabet and make me sing the national anthem in front of him. He was a colonel. Therefore, as I was singing my heart out, he would make me perform a salute, making me think that I was one of his soldiers.

My papa successfully crossed over the bridge on January 10, 2015. It was devastating. I remember how me and my brother were just playing games in the room, thinking that our hospice father would eventually go home as healthy as ever. But as kids, we had no knowledge of what was really going on. It was just a random morning when our mama entered the room and had tears falling down her face. Me and my brother were clueless as to why she was like that, but we kept calm and waited for her to tell us what she was eager to say. The words, "Wala na si daddy," came out of her mouth, and my whole world was crumbling into ashes. I didn't shed a tear, because I thought that it was just a mere fantasy, but as I saw how my brother was bawling his eyes out, I knew for a fact that it was real.

Out of all the people I know, the strongest one is my Mama. Her name is Annabelle D. Amigo. During the weeks that my father was hospitalized, she did everything in her power to keep us from knowing the truth. That our father was dying. It's hard to believe how she was able to hide everything, from her pain and suffering to the fact that the man she raised two children with is coming to demise.

This is my brother, Jayden Andwelle A. Maglian. He was born a year older than me on December 27, 2007. Throughout the entirety of our childhood, I always found security in him. Despite the short age gap, he was able to stand up for me in times when I needed him most. After my father passed away, he remained by my side at all times, knowing how close I was to Papa and how devastated I was by the news. He kept me going and he was my kakampi in everything.

I have known Euryle and Kye since elementary because we went to the same school, but we developed a strong friendship when we ended up in the same class in 9th grade. My friendship with Rena and Janielle started in 9th grade as well. Janielle was one of our classmates, and Rena was a friendly student from the other class who helped us operate the sewing machine.

Before entering my senior high school journey, I struggled to accept the fact that we were never staying in the same classroom together anymore. During my first few days in ADDU, I found myself silently shedding a tear in my seat because the memory of being with them lingers in my mind. Whenever I looked around the classroom, I couldn't help but recall the comfort I felt in seeing their faces. But I eventually found a way to adjust and be contented with what I have. I then learned that everything is temporary and that I should practice the art of letting go.

In just a few weeks, I was able to find friendships with these people. Random plans were made, which led to us developing strong bonds that I know will be unbreakable. It's nice how they made all my worries and doubts disappear. At first, the fear of not being able to have a friend scared the life out of me. I had a mindset that students from ADDU were different, and I always thought that I could never vibe with them. But they proved me wrong. In the first bond we had together, we were able to share laughter and sing our hearts out in karaoke without a single thought in the world. We spent the entire afternoon talking and walking to random shops together, and as we were about to go home, we were able to delve deeper into each other's lives.

But out of all the friendships I have in ADDU, these two are my favorite. Jacey and Jas. My other friend and I were casually walking out of the campus, eager to go home, when suddenly, these two, along with Troy, asked us if we wanted to go to Savemore with them. We accepted the offer with no hesitation, and in just a blink of an eye, we clicked as if we had been friends forever. I believe that the universe has purposely connected the dots between us. We are the perfect mixture of Grizzly, Panda, and Ice Bear. I love Jacey and Jas!

I never expected that the person I used to admire from a few chairs away would be one of the people I value most in this lifetime. She has given me nothing but strength and motivation to overcome the challenges that blocked my way. She gave me a purpose: to live my life to the fullest. TikTok has been my best friend for approximately five years now, and I wouldn't know what I would do without it. TikTok not only provides me with entertainment but also comforts me whenever I need it. I have also learned a lot of things from TikTok. From cooking Buldak noodles to making an origami flower. TikTok has it all.

Facebook is a safe place for me.

Whenever I feel disappointed about something, I open my Spotify and search for a song that I know will be able to perfectly describe what I'm feeling. I know how to play the guitar! Though I can't say that I am an expert. I find comfort in learning new songs and creating my own version of them. Ever since I was a kid, I have been fascinated by how people are able to play music just by using their fingers. I always found myself looking at videos of people playing the guitar. On my 15th Birthday, the dream of having my own guitar became a reality, and I was able to teach myself how to play a couple of songs.

These media have influenced the process of how I make certain decisions. For instance, whenever I feel lost, and I don't know what to do, I feel confused about what decision I should make. I struggle to understand myself and how the thoughts in my mind collide with one another. There were times when I felt the need to give up. But as I saw how people from these media felt the same way as me, I felt a sense of comfort, and it became clear in my mind that I was not struggling alone. I knew for a fact that life still goes on. But there were also instances when I was manipulated into thinking something bad about someone. This is what makes it unhealthy. Media can either be healthy or harmful depending on how you use them. Therefore, we should all learn how to consume media in a proper way and limit the amount of information we implicate in our daily lives.
