Peaches are used to gauge Charlies bravery but also are symbolic of something rotten/beautiful/
1. P5 The rarest and most revered feat is to snatch a peach by the flank of the cottage like a zombies hand bursting from the grave' (quote demonstrates fear and immaturity). At the end of the book Charlie does manage to snatch up quite a few peaches- this shows he has matured
2. Peach also represents the theme of appearance VS reality because peaches can look beautiful/normal/perfect but be rotten on the inside
3. p 346 Jasper is away picking peaches saving up money for Laura- what do you think Craig Silvey is trying to say here?? It represents that Jasper is a brave character- him picking peaches is no big deal.

Why?"
"Open your eyes, mate"
INFERENCE:
From this quote, it can be inferred that the theme of innocence is portrayed by Charlie because he doesn't realise what is going on around him. He is completely oblivious, at this stage, as to what society depicts about
"outsiders", like Jasper. It also reveals a side of fear to Charlie, that seemingly, he is scared and doesn't quite understand what is really happening because he hasn't been introduced into the "real world". Rather than Jasper, who is used to this lifestyle.
THEME:
innocence, fear

P.209 :
"I was terrified, but something kicked in me. I discovered a gift for lies."
- This quote Infers that in Corrigan, to tell a lie, is a day-to-day reoccurance that isn't perceived as being a wrong doing in their community. For example, Mr Wishart has a gift for lies as he stands at the top of the social hierarchy and has a lot of respect from the community but the lies that he keeps are a matter of defending him and his reputation. Charlie discovers lies are a gift when he realises that telling a lie in Corrigan is acceptable and is the only way of protecting his innocence but also the truth.
