         <title>Education 580</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I am taking this course because I am an alternate access teacher fulfilling my licensure requirements. &nbsp;<br><br>I am looking forward to the excuse to try some new things that I have been learning in my own classroom.&nbsp; I have always considered myself a very non-traditional, progressive teacher in the classroom.&nbsp; Sometimes you can go to a professional development, attend a webinar, or see something on a blog, and think wow, that’s a great idea.&nbsp; But you never are forced to give it a shot.&nbsp; I’m looking forward to using some material from my most recent professional development day, Kagan Cooperative Learning.&nbsp; In my mini-lessons, I hope to incorporate some of the structures from this training, practice my delivery of them, and see how students respond.<br><br>My biggest concern is that this course involves me video taping myself.&nbsp; I have done this in my classroom previously, when I flipped a class, but this experience is never fun.&nbsp; I understand that it is a valid tool for self reflection, but there is nothing more humbling than seeing yourself on camera.&nbsp; It is especially true when you are trying something out of your comfort zone and being graded upon your performance.&nbsp; (The second biggest concern is that I am transitioning into the third quarter of school at work.&nbsp; One of my co-teachers is on maternity leave this March and that puts strain on the whole department.&nbsp; I will be doing all the events for science club as well as spending my prep period in her room to help out the long term sub.) &nbsp;<br><br>My two personal learning goals for EDUC 580 are:&nbsp;<br>1) Move towards more cooperative learning classroom than a teamwork project based classroom.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;2) Learn tools to customize courses that I co-teach with other teachers; to make each class I teach more ME.&nbsp;<br><br>The best educational experience I ever had was in high school, but I couldn't narrow it down to a favorite lesson.&nbsp; It was a favorite teacher.&nbsp; I remember being respected, valued, and encouraged.&nbsp; It was a level of comfort that was established, and the ability to drill deeper into the topics that interested me.&nbsp; That to me is the common thread of a good lesson.&nbsp; The classroom foundations must be set to support students to engage in what they enjoy, delve deeper into areas that pique their interests, and the opportunity to take learning chances.&nbsp; Good design has strong classroom management seamlessly built in so that students are engaged in learning, not class rules.&nbsp; <br><br><br></div>]]></description>
