The basic human rights of all people should be respected and international companies should recognize this in their dealings with employees, The large international companies should show that they make some acting in a socially responsible manner such as encourage education, afforestation, reduction of pollution and helping underprivileged. It is thought corporate social responsibility is a type of international business self-regulation.

“I want to begin by talking about funding a healthcare system that paid for by government programs, and here i’ll focus on the tree main ones, First, there’s direct payment. This is individuals pay for medical care at the time you receive it. It is paid to you by the council’s social services department, so you can decide how to spend it on care and support. Direct payments give you more flexibility over how your care and support is arranged and provide. Second, there’s health insurance. What’s meant by this is individuals make regular payments to a sickness insurance company that pays for all part of the costs of any medical care received. Third, there’s general taxation. In this case, health care is provided for everyone in the country and this is funded through taxation.”

Could you turn on figure 4, page 32. The chart gives information about distribution of deaths by leading cause between males and females in 2004. I would like to pick out three pieces of information. The first is that Cardiovascular diseases, In 2004 there are 31.5% of females and 26.8% of males died because of Cardiovascular diseases. It is one of the main causes of death disability in the world. The second, Respiratory diseases. One thing is for sure, smoking is the most common cause of Respiratory diseases and it seems like mortality rate of males and females from Respiratory diseases almost equal at 6.8% of females and 6.9% of males. The last one is that I would like to pick out is Unintentional injuries, The most common Unintentional injuries result from motors vehicle crashes. The mortality rate of males from Unintentional injuries more than the mortality rate of females at 3.1%. So the main thing is that most of death people in 2004 die because of diseases.

Natural disasters have a greater impact on LEDCs than MEDCs in a number of different ways. In terms of the number of lives lost, most people who die as a result of natural disasters are in LEDCs. It has been reported, for example, that between 1991 and 2005, 630,000 people were killed by natural disasters in LEDCs compared with 72,000 in MEDCs (International Strategy for Disaster Reduction, 2010).

In addition, poorer people may have to risk living in disaster-prone areas, where land is cheap, in order to make a living. It has been reported, For example, most of the farming population of Bangladesh live in low-lying parts of the country where severe floods occur regularly.

As far as economic impact is concerned, infrastructure (e.g. roads, airports, electricity and gas supply) in LEDCs is often of poorer quality, and can easily be damaged or destroyed in natural disasters.

In particular, tourism, which is an important part of the economy in many LEDCs, can be particularly badly hit by damage to infrastructure.

With respect to social impact, disasters have a greater social impact on poorer people than better-off people. It has been claimed, that “Although a household on a lower income may spend less in total terms than a wealthier household, they are likely to spend a higher proportion of their income on recovery” (Adams,2008)

It is also the case that fewer people in LEDCs have insurance against property damage.

From the point of view of health, healthcare facilities in LEDCs are often less able to cope with demand after a natural disaster. It has been observed, When I did voluntary work in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake, the medical services there were clearly unable to deal with the huge number injured.

This can be made worse by the fact that in some LEDCs there are only basic water and sewage facilities, which can easily be damaged by natural disasters.

However, in some respects natural disaster may have a greater impact on MEDCs.

For example, MEDCs have more developed infrastructure, which is very expensive to replace or repair if it is damaged. Research has been shown that the United States and Japan suffered the most economic damage from natural disasters between 1991 and 2005 (Wills, 2009)

It may also be that while MEDCs may be better placed than LEDCs to face natural disasters, there may be variation within MEDCs.

Finally, factors other than the level of national development influence how severe the impact of a natural disasters on a country is.

Reflective writing (29 May)

I studied about reflective writing that very useful to help me when I have to writing essays in my masters degrees. It was very interesting for me because I have never done it before and it was very difficult for me. About how to write reflective writing, First, I have to start by describing what I have done the activity. Second, I might to evaluate my performance. Third, I have to think about how well did I done then describe it. After that, I might to describe my feeling like how do I feel about this activity and the last step, I might to finish by considering how I would do next time. Well, it’s quite hard for me but very useful. This skill of writing I can use it in the future. I like this lesson and I’m quite happy with it. However, I can not remember every step of how to write the reflective writing like a professional, I need to study more and take more time with lesson review or ask the tutor for help. I learned a lot from this lesson and it will help me when I have to write essays in the future. In the next class I’m going to try harder than the last class.
