From the list in Mosaic of Thought pg. 262

I chose “Readers create sensory images during and after reading. These may include visual, auditory, and other sensory images as well as emotional connections to the text and are rooted in prior knowledge.

Or readers use their images to clarify and enhance comprehension.

From the information provided by Tovani pg. 53

“When meaning breaks down, good readers create images in their head to help them make sense of what the words are saying. They use movies, television, and life to help them picture what is happening. “ If they can see it, they often understand it better.

One way that I plan to incorporate using visual images in my teaching will be to , have my students use post-it notes to mark places where they can create an image and what that image is. I will start out with a think out loud exercise where I show them how to do this and they will be required to share with the class one visualization each day after silent reading time. There will be some type of reward involved in the beginning like tiger bucks or extra recess. I will be working in the elementary group in a cross-cat environment so we will need a lot of practice in the beginning using this eighth strategy. I really like the idea of the post-it notes for practice of each strategy and I will use different colors for each one as we encounter them. My hope is that by the end of our book we will have read it through three times looking for different things in different parts and the last time they will read it alone. This will require me to have multiple copies of the same book or to copy each chapter as we go. On the first day of this strategy lesson I will have my book marked with three different visualizations that I encountered and I will bring along a picture to go with it so that we can have a discussion about different versions of a picture for instance a picture of a pig and a cartoon pig and one that I drew .
