Overview: During this stage, infants are faced with the challenge of trusting their caregivers and the world around them. They develop a sense of mistrust and insecurity.

- When I was a baby, I reached a phase where I was upset when I was separated from my mom. It did not take me long to feel more comfortable staying with others. I began to trust my mom and dad and knew they would come back to get me.

- "If trust predominates, as it should, children develop hope: the belief they can fulfill their needs and obtain their desires" (McGraw Hill).

Overview: In this stage, the child is developing a greater sense of personal control. They also develop a role of being independent. They find a balance of being secure and confident while also having some self-doubt.

- When I was in this stage, I was very independent and wanted to try to do things on my own. I found ways to have control of what I was doing, but also still depended on my parents and doubted I could do some things. I was also very determined and was potty trained at this age. I also began to accomplish socialization.

- "Socialization is the process by which children develop habits, skills, values, and motives that make them responsible, productive members of society" (McGraw Hill).

Overview: In this stage, children begin to assert their power and control over the world through directing play and other social interactions. They should feel capable and able to lead others.

- When I was going through this stage, I started to understand guilt and learn what I should and shouldn't be doing. I began grasping the idea of having more control and power over certain environments. There were times I would try to exert too much power, therefore leading to guilt.

- "They develop new physical and mental skills, setting goals, and enjoying new found talents and learning to control impulses" (McGraw Hill).

Overview: During this stage, more social interactions take place. Children begin to develop a sense of pride in their accomplishments and abilities. Children also begin to cope with new social and academic demands.

- When I was going through this stage, I definitely had more social interactions and felt a sense of pride when I accomplished something, especially in school. I wanted to do well in school and please others.

- "They learn to make things, use tools, and acquire skills for adult life" (McGraw Hill).

Overview: This stage plays an essential role in developing a sense of personal identity which will continue to influence behavior and development for the rest of a person's life. Teens develop a sense of self and personal identity. During this stage, teens have the ability to stay true to themselves, while failing which causes confusion and a weak sense of self.

- During this stage, I was figuring out who I was and learning more about myself. Through this process, I was confused sometimes, but I was able to become more independent because of it. During this stage, I received much encouragement and it left me with a strong sense of self.

- "Teenagers decide who they are, what they're going to do, and life goals" (McGraw Hill).

Overview: Young adults form intimate relationships with other people during this stage. They have strong relationships, and if these relationships fail, they experience loneliness and isolation. This stage covers the period of early adulthood when people are exploring personal relationships.

- This is the stage I am currently in right now. I have experienced many strong relationships, whether it is a love interest, friend, or family member. When one of these relationships has a conflict or problem, I have experienced loneliness.

- "Once you have decided who you are, you share yourself with someone else and learn to make commitments (McGraw Hill).

Overview: Adults create and nurture things that will outlast them, often by having children or creating positive changes that benefit other people. They have feelings of usefulness and accomplishment, and when they do not have success, it results in shallow involvement in the world. During adulthood, people continue to build their lives and focus on careers and families.

- Hopefully, while I am in this stage, I will make an impact on my own children, and children I work with in school or church at the time.

- "Will you sink into selfishness and complacency or experience creativity and renewal?" (McGraw Hill).

Overview: In this final stage, you are older and focusing on reflecting back on life. At this point in development, people look back on the events of their lives and determine if they are happy with the life that they lived or it they regret the things they did or didn't do. Older adults need to look back on life and feel a sense of fulfillment.

- Hopefully when I reach this stage, I will feel a sense of peace over what I accomplished in my lifetime. I want to be proud of all I did and satisfied.

- "People strive to reach the ultimate goals of wisdom, spiritual tranquility, and acceptance of their lives" (McGraw Hill).
