I have been using Read and Write for Unit tests. I mainly have been using it with students who have an IEP who appear to do well on the written answers, but do not seem to excel at multiple choice, true and false, matching, etc... They use the feature that allows them to hear the question out loud. Unfortunately the lovely people in resource do not have the time to read every single question (as they have A LOT of kids to tend to) so this allows the student to still have that option available to them. Just this year alone, one student in particular improved 30% on summative assessments by using Read and Write. Everytime I convince a student to "just give it a try," they come back and are begging me to use it next time! I LOVE Read and Write! Stacey Lance

I use the workspace for all of my classes. I love it because it allows me to differentiate between who is seeing what. I can send a modified assignment to a student who is on a modified program, and nobody else knows but them. It makes it easy for me to ensure that my students always have access to a soft/hard copy. Parents of children with learning disabilities love it because they can sit down with their child and open up every single thing we are doing in class. It allows for more transparency between school and home. The parents really appreciate this as they want to provide additional support to their child, but these children don't often have organized note books. I organize the workspace in a way that it follows the flow of the course. So, parents can follow along with their student, and check off each task as we have completed it (using a checklist provided). Additionally, this tool allows me to post any videos, websites, etc... that explain the material we are discussing in class. That way if a student is having difficulty grasping a concept, they can watch the videos at home and come and ask me questions afterwards.
Oh, one more thing (sorry!) I like to have a peek at how their projects are coming along and this way I can intervene before it's too late!
Stacey Lance

I use Workspace in all of my classes. It allows me to design a unit that resembles an online course. Students can work on it in class and at home. I have several students who play competitive sports and they can keep up with their work schedule while away.

We have a limited number of textbooks in our department so being able to post a website, class notes and information in Workspace is an asset and makes my teaching life so much easier.

I have used the grouping feature to pair students together for an assignment. I have also used this feature to organize lessons. It allows me to group all the information from a lesson in one place.

Evaluating student work in Workspace is easy. They submit their work, I review it online and return it with a grade all within Workspace.

I also appreciate that any workspace can be modified. This allows me to change the titles to French.

- Paula Dumouchel

If the document has been written in google docs using the proper equation editor and some other editing it works well.
