" I can't talk. I can't walk. I can't feed myself or take myself to the bathroom. Big bummer." (page 3).

The person who is saying the quote is 11-year-old Melody. She is a girl who has a physical disability that can't let her do all the things she just said. This quote describes the conflict of the book because Melody has this thing in her head that lets her memorize every single detail in her life. But because she can't talk she can't express herself and tell no one. This disability makes her very lonely since she can't do anything, she can't tell no one to stop looking at her, to replay that song she likes.

Allie says this to both Lief and Nick after they wake up in a mysterious forest at the bottom of a cliff, but Nick can't seem to remember anything.
