How does the brutality of war affect the mental health of both the male and female characters? Also, dive deeper into how the story treats the longing effects of mental health caused by war.
- Discuss the overall plot of the novel Catch 22 and how it develops significantly in the later chapters of the novel. Do each characters’ actions align with the plot, or does it contradict it? Show how this creates protagonists and antagonists.
-Explore the existential themes that become more pronounced in the later chapters. Discuss how characters grapple with the meaning of life, the futility of war, and the sense of existential despair. Consider moments where the novel delves into nihilistic viewpoints and analyze how this philosophical perspective shapes the characters' actions and attitudes.

Least Favorite Character: Throughout the story so far, my least favorite character is Colonel Cathcart. I say this because his selfish acts lead to the deaths of Yossarian and many members of the squadrant. In the novel, Colonel Cathcart prioritizes his personal gain by making secret agreements with Germany to protect his bussiness, which in return makes his squadrant vulnerable to enemy forces.

Which book was better: I enjoyed reading the novel Catch 22 a lot more than the Martian Chronicles. I say this because Catch 22 is very action pact while also revealing the importance of God in human life. This was way more enjoyable for me because I can relate to this a lot more. Here at Chaminade, student life is always centered around God, which is something I enjoy very much. Ultimately, I enjoyed reading Catch 22 more because I feel like this novel could be applied to my own life in many ways.

While reading these chapters, I noticed how Yossarian, Milo, and Minderbinder have grown according to their motivations. Also, be sure to discuss how the absurdities of war in the book Catch 22 influence their character growth.
- The theme of Power and Authority. While reading these chapters, it is evident that the role of Colonel Cathart greatly affects each character. The decisions he makes affects character development which reveals the role of authority within the military.
-Discuss how Heller uses Milo's actions to satirize capitalism, the military-industrial complex, and the morality of profiting from war. Explore the broader implications of Milo's business ventures, such as M&M Enterprises, and how they reflect on the wartime economy.

Least Favorite Character: My least favorite character in the book Catch 22 is Colonel Cathcart. I say this because his poor leadership skills poorly affect the other characters. In addition, his only priority is to better himself and not other characters. For example, he increased the required number of combat missions so he could earn a promotion, ignoring the fact that this would increase the death count. His decisions are only made for his personal gain and not the squadrons.

Logos Appeal: The novel examines the illogical nature of judging a soldier's preparedness only on the basis of statistics and arbitrary mission numbers. The fact that the military leadership determines a soldier's capacity and eligibility for discharge based on arbitrary mission completion counts troubles the characters, notably Yossarian. The nonsensical part is that completing a predetermined number of missions does not imply proficiency or mental soundness. The argument from logic is that it is dubious whether or not it is appropriate to evaluate the soldiers' effectiveness and mental health using such a quantitative measure.

Throughout these chapters, the author highlights the immortality of war and how it affects the decision making of each character.
- The main characters of the first 10 chapters: Yossarian, Milo, Minderbinder, and Colonel Cathcart utilize satire in their interactions with each other. The author does this to reveal each characters’ motivations and thoughts and how they are either similar or different to others. In sum, the book is based off the contradictions these characters share.
- Lastly, the themes of war and insanity are prevalent in these chapters. These two themes show how the foundation of the military affect the mental health of each character. In addition, Heller also uses satire to reveal the dark elements of war that is shown throughout these chapters.

Make a bold prediction. Explain.
My bold prediction for this book is that the world will eventually end up in ruin. I say this because each character’s core values all differ from each other. With this being said, I believe that war will eventually begin and there will be no moral rules or limitations. For example, chemical warfare and the killing of innocent citizens will take place, which is morally wrong. In result, millions of people will die from this and the world will never be the same.

Identify 1 argument the author is making. How is he/she making it? What kind of argument is it. What kind of appeal is he/she using? How effective is it?

Argument: Critique on Government and the Absurdity of War.

How: The author presents their argument through the usage of satire during character interactions. The author writes this story through a disorganized timeline, which means the events that take place in the book don’t occur in the same order in which they actually happen. The author does this to match the disorganization and absurdity of war in which it plays out in the story.

Appeal: The author utilizes both a logos and ethos appeal when doing this. Heller uses a logos appeal when she describes the absurdities of war. This is a logos appeal because these same concepts are still prevelant in today’s world. War is a dark time of death, darkness, and sadness. This is a fact that cant be argued; War is never a time of happiness. In addition to this, Heller also uses ethos to connect with the judgement of readers through each characters’ experience.

Effectiveness. The argument Heller presents is really affective. I say this because she uses indisputable facts while also engaging with the judgement and morality of the readers.
