The puritans were the pilgrims that had their Thanksgiving dinner when they migrated to Massachusetts. They were religious people who wanted pure religion, that caused people to hate them. They came from England. The name Puritans refers to the reform movement which occurred in the English church during the time of Queen Elizabeth and King Charles ll. When Queen Elizabeth died and King Charles ll dissolved parliament, and church and state connection he demanded that people that didn't support the new Anglican church, that's how religious persecution for the puritans began.

The witch trials in Salem all began when a girl named Betty Paris got so ill. Her symptoms were stress, asthma, guilt, boredom, child abuse, epilepsy, and delusional psychosis. Talk of witchcraft increased as her friends got those symptoms. In trial you had to admit you were a witch, because if you didn't they would think you were lying and kill you. But, if you admit you were a witch you wouldn't die, however you would become an outcast.
