Pam Pearson

I would use this game in my special needs civics class. It is geared for students in grades 6-8.
I chose this game because in the civics curriculum we cover the election process and students need to be able to think critically and make decisions based on arguments presented. This would be incorporated into a unit on persuasive arguments, debating, and civic responsibility. I would extend the lesson by having the students explain why they chose a particular candidate and what issues they thought were important and why.
https://www.icivics.org/games/cast-your-vote

Here is a copy of my certificate.

Donna Gutschmidt

I don't have K-12 students that I can apply this to. But a game-based learning application that I've often considered using as a training tool is the PowerPoint version of Jeopardy. It was an application we looked at in one of our previous courses. It was from the "Cool Tools for Schools" site. (Luckily I kept in my Tech Toolbox!) Even though it was done in PowerPoint, it looks just like the Jeopardy board from TV. I thought it could be a fun way to present content to group or review my training topic & materials.

I think the gamification of classroom learning is fabulous and I'm totally on board with that concept. If you can turn learning into a fun game, I think that's a win-win. For me, I thought using the Jeopardy game would not only help to provide information to my group, but get them competing with each other and interacting more with the material in a really fun and engaging way. The link below is one of the sites that has a jeopardy game template, but I believe there are others, as well. Some are better/newer than others.

http://www.superteachertools.us/jeopardyx/editor.php

Jennie Zacharyasz

This game-based learning tool could apply to any grade level as it's totally personalized and geared to independent game creation of your choosing. The Quizizz' can be created in minutes and you collect class and student level data as the 'playing' occurs.' As you can see on the website, you can find and create your own Quizizz', you can play a 'live' game in class or assign as homework, students can play at their own pace, and gamification elements like avatars, memes and leaderboard are available. You can also customize your question and game settings as you can see in the pictures below.

I would use this game with students to reinforce learning concepts, engage students in a lesson, survey the class on thoughts and feelings, use as a team-play activity, and review for a quiz, test, midterm, etc. As long as students have a device with a browser (Chrome, Firefox, etc) they can log in with a game code. (similar to Kahoot- another game-based digital learning tool) If you are a GAFE integrated school, you can share Quizizz' on Google Classroom!

Here's the link to check it out! http://quizizz.com/

Jerry Des Forges

This game is geared towards a 5-8th grade health class. The unit would be physical activity and nutrition. The students would be able to build daily meal plans by selecting foods for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and an AM & PM snack. The object of the game is to stay with in your allotted calorie total for the day while obtaining all of food groups required to fulfill their nutrient needs. I would use this game as a practice for them in developing meal plans to fit the MyPlate recommendations. There could be some extensions developed off of using this games such as choosing healthier foods (if two foods are in the same food group ex. fried chicken vs. baked or grilled chicken).

Check out the game by following this link: http://www.nourishinteractive.com/kids/healthy-games/6-kevins-build-a-meal-game-balanced-meals

-Michael Cummings
I have used Kahoot in Spanish class many times with students. This is a great game students can use. The students enjoy the game because it is a competition for who can get the highest score. The kids all try their best to get top scores and win a prize. This is nice because the kids do not even really realize they are taking an assessment. Kahoot is nice because you are able to print out a copy of the game results you could use for data.

https://kahoot.it/#/

I would also use the website icivics.org because it is geared towards social studies but the game that I would use would be argument wars. This would be great for government classes because you are a lawyer trying to state your case. it teaches us how to support our arguments but also it allows us to use our knowledge of the constitution to create even better arguments. It hits upon a couple of different Ohio Government Standards.

https://www.icivics.org/games/argument-wars
