In Wonder Miranda and August have a connection because the challenge Miranda faces is her parents divorce and the challenge August faces is his facial disfigurement. August has a facial disfigurement that prevented him from going to school in the past. The principal of his new school, Mr. Tushman assigns three kids Jack, Julian and Charlotte to help him on his first day of school. Jack tries to be his friend but he doesn't have the confidence. Jack then makes fun of him because of peer pressure. All of the students go to a nature retreat and August gets harassed by seventh graders.
