Group Projects - DATA DEVELOPMENT - Week of March 5-9 / Due Thursday 3/8 by 11PM by Justin Ellis

DATA DEVELOPMENT. This week's assignment is to refine your data collection methods and begin to compile your initial data into a spreadsheet or other format. This will insure that you understand what information your group is collecting, and how to compile, organize and analyze the data for distribution to an audience.

Rather than a photo of your group, this week you should take a screenshot of your data tables, any graphs, or other form of data organization to demonstrate that your group has a system for collecting and organizing your data. This should be fairly well thought out. You are encouraged to utilize or conduct additional research on how others have collected and organized similar data. It's o.k. to borrow ideas from other projects as long as it is data that your group will be able to collect.

Take the time to think about how you want your data to look. Don't just throw it into a sloppy spreadsheet. Add a title or caption to explain where it came from, include units of measurement, etc. Use what your learned from the waste audit assignment on how to visualize information. This assignment is due Thursday 3/8 by 11pm and is worth 10 pts.

I hope everyone has an excellent SPRING BREAK!

We have not settled on a specific replacement shuttle yet, so these numbers come from general averages that we have found when comparing two similarly sized vehicles. It has been difficult to find a replacement vehicle that also provides all of the specs we would need to make a fair assessment.

We have put together a rough draft of our survey with essentially the questions, or similar questions, to the ones we will use for our final. This survey will allow us to receive feedback from the people that our project will benefit the most. We also plan on designing either an app or website based on the results from the survey. We intend on conducting this survey the second Wednesday back from spring break. We hope to get in touch with Flush Flash to get the word out about our survey and also plan on visiting the Gainesville since they already have a carpooling lot.

We have collected data from the residents of the suites through polling that asked several simple questions, evidenced by our graphs below. Even from this small sample size it is shown that recycling tendencies are not where they need to be. Our project, in the coming weeks will focus our efforts on gathering information about the costs of the current collection bins, and the costs to replace them with new recycling bins. We will also determine the number of rooms in the suites, the number of residents and number of recycling bins in the rooms. This can be accomplished through a paper survey on doors. We hope to get in touch with Res Life soon to implement changes.

We have been tracking the number of bottles saved by the machines in two week increments. The unit of measurement is an approximately 16.9 fluid ounce water bottle. This data is depicted in separate tables for each 'wing' of the residence. We have also created a yes/no survey we will ask residents of Donovan to complete. This survey will show us the impact these stations are making in the everyday behavior of the residents.
