During the busy rush hour, everyone was hustling and bustling on the transfer platform. Ho-fai went against the flow, walking along the platform towards the front of the train. Just as he stopped, the train arrived. Ho-fai watched the platform screen doors slowly open, and there was Siu-mei, gracefully walking towards him. My bride. Ho-fai had never been a sentimental person, but at this moment, he was slightly moved, taking the small package Siu-mei handed him, speechless. Siu-mei, on the other hand, seemed calm, giving him a kiss on the cheek before boarding the train and leaving.

Ho-fai returned to his office, closed the door, and solemnly opened the package.

Inside the small package was a lunchbox. Ho-fai stared at it for a long time. Siu-mei's mother had instructed, as per family tradition, that after the engagement, you should eat the lunchboxes prepared by Siu-mei. Siu-mei had whispered in Ho-fai's ear, "You are my beloved..."

Ho-fai didn't say a word during the meeting, spending the entire morning as if he was overdosed with drugs with a smile.

Ho-fai carried the lunchbox towards the pantry, passing by the general affairs department on the way. He placed the lunchbox on the letter scale, examining the weight of happiness. Ho-fai felt that he had changed. The pantry was crowded, surprisingly many colleagues were waiting to use the microwave. In the end, the secretary thoughtfully took Ho-fai's lunchbox and asked him to wait in the meeting room.

There was already a woman in the meeting room, whom Ho-fai didn't recognize, probably a new colleague. She was flipping through a magazine while eating something white and round, biting into it revealed black sesame filling flowing out... Tangyuan for lunch? Ho-fai found it a bit bizarre. The secretary brought Ho-fai's heated lunchbox, and when he opened it, he was even more perplexed. Didn't Siu-mei know that he never ate bitter gourd and eggplant? Or was Siu-mei planning to control Ho-fai's diet from now on?

Ho-fai reconsidered the "family rules" mentioned by his future mother-in-law, staring blankly at the lunchbox. The woman glanced at Ho-fai, then curiously approached the lunchbox and asked, "Is it not tasty?" Ho-fai didn't know how to answer, so he just mumbled an "Mm." The woman seemed to want to verify it herself, extending her spoon to scoop some rice and vegetables from Ho-fai's lunchbox into her mouth.

Ho-fai was too surprised to stop her, but she seemed to enjoy it. As Ho-fai watched, he couldn't help but burst into laughter. The woman, chewing on bitter gourd and beef, looked at Ho-fai while pushing her own tangyuan towards him.

In the end, Ho-fai's lunch consisted of six tangyuan.

In the evening, Ho-fai went to Siu-mei's house to return the lunchbox. Siu-mei asked, "Was it to your liking?" Ho-fai nodded vigorously. Somehow, Ho-fai's conversation kept revolving around the colleague who had tangyuan for lunch. Ho-fai righteously declared, "It's so unhealthy..." Siu-mei tilted her head, examining Ho-fai, "Did someone eating tangyuan offend you?" Ho-fai fell silent, embarrassed.

The next morning, Ho-fai again received a lunchbox on the platform.

At lunchtime, Ho-fai once again exchanged Siu-mei's lunchbox for eight tangyuan from the woman.

Several days passed. Siu-mei stared at Ho-fai and said, "You've gained weight." Ho-fai spilled his tea upon hearing this. The next day, Ho-fai stood outside the meeting room with his lunchbox — he recalled what people called the "Peter Pan syndrome," supposedly most likely to affect men before marriage — "Anyway, I'm about to get married..." Ho-fai steeled himself and walked into the meeting room.

The woman casually asked Ho-fai, "Can we only share meals at this conference table?" Ho-fai's heart fluttered quietly as he opened his lunchbox and froze.

In the lunchbox Siu-mei had prepared for Ho-fai were eight tangyuan.

That night, Ho-fai handed the empty lunchbox to Siu-mei, who took it without a word from Ho-fai. Suddenly, Siu-mei hugged the lunchbox to her chest and said softly, "Isn't it said that there is no fear in love?" Ho-fai was stunned. Siu-mei wiped the tears from her face, her voice still gentle and calm, "The purpose of making lunchboxes for you was to know your tastes. Now you dare not speak, and I dare not ask. How did we end up like this?" Ho-fai was too flustered to answer.

That night, Ho-fai didn't even have the strength to pray, mumbling the Lord's Prayer. When he reached "lead us not into temptation..." Ho-fai felt as if struck by something, breaking into uncontrollable sobs.
