I am a Hispanic American Artist. I was born in Lake Jackson, Texas. On April 16, 1971. I am known as the Queen of Tejano, and thats how I want to be remembered. My career started off as a dream and soon turned to reality. I was only 10 years old when i realized what I wanted to do with my life, sing. We were playing gigs that we could get at the time. We'd get like a hundred dollars a gig for playing 4 hours and be like oh god this is cool now it's like...ahhh... but you know you just take what you can get when you're starting out and we got laughed at we uh...my father was told that we would never make it. It was kinda hard at first, cause I knew it was uh.. a means of putting food on the table for the whole family. You know we did it to make a living. So the only way we could put bread on the table was try to sing and do music professionally and make a living off of it.

As you all know, I was nominated for Best Mexican/American Album. If you missed it, I won “Best Mexican-American Album” for my album Live!

So you can imagine how I felt when they called out my name. I cried in the back. It was just a great feeling.

I just won both "Best Female Vocalist of the Year" for the second time and "Performer of the Year." Along with two other titles. I'm very honored to win them.

Gold Record Status

Ven Conmigo, was the first Tejano record to achieve gold record status. Thank you to all my fans who bought this record. It helped me sell more than 500,000 copies, winning this title in 1991.

When I was a Teenager

In middle school I was asked to try out for the cheerleading squad but
because of my touring with the band I didn't have time for it. Although it would have been fun, I probably wouldn't be where I am today.

I lost a lot out of my teenage hood but I gained a lot too. I can't really say
that I lost because I got ahead of everyone as far as career and being more
mature about business, even though I didn't know what the heck was going on.

When I'm singing I'm a completely different person. I could be very free, depending on the situation I could do what I want. I would have to deliver, like with many songs, a lot of emotion if a song is very sad, as with a very happy and excited song. It depends, it depends. Compared to when I'm my normal self,

I loved Lake Jackson because of the green grass, the trees. I remember how it would flood where I lived, and my friends and I would play in the water. I was a little tomboy when I was growing up. I used to like to play football with the guys and you know, normal things like hide-and-seek, and get a hold of my brother's bike and try to teach myself how to ride it.

Doing things for the community Involvement and charity events fills my hear with happiness and joy. Just seeing what a change I can make. Weither it be keeping kids in school with the "stay in school jamborees" or if it was keeping kids off of drugs with D.A.R.E. It shows that anyone can make a difference.
