By this information this narrows it down to the American Revolution. I found on page 21, he was stressed because he saw smoke coming from the direction of his home. "No. There had been years of peace. Even with the war, a real war, starting back east in towns and cities, it would not have come out here so soon; it had only been a week since they'd heard the news. I have chosen the deer as my character to give something to. The tool i want to give to the deer are some buckets. For example the deer can use the buckets to get water and to hold stones or leaves. Well Samuel's parents were already rescued from the British but all Samuel had to do was beat down the guards with a hard brick in the head and open the door. I think Gary Paulsen wants us to learn that war is not a joke but if it does happen know to not give up and everything may be okay.

Samuel ran from drapers crossing for forty hours as he left he saw a cornfield that raiders wanted to set on fire. Samuel had the hunger of a wolf as he passed to cornfield he got corn and ate it as he walked. He passed a river drinking its thick muddy water then he heard people talking a native language Samuel wanted to kill a man so bad while following his moms footsteps Samuel thought many things in those moments such as why did those people come back? Or that he was getting quite close he started to jog he found and saw old clearings from beavers he found an opening with a camp filled with Indians and few British soldiers in bright red uniforms and along with some horses hooked up to carts a quarter mile away he thinks that his parents may be with the soldiers.
