This summer I interned at the Korean American Coalition's Los Angeles office (KACLA), working primarily on civic engagement and stopping anti-Asian hate. In this position, I conducted research, created and executed a dual social media and in-person campaign dedicated to filling gaps in education on the reporting of hate crimes/incidents, and assisted the rest of the team in providing bilingual resources to the Los Angeles county for civic engagement.

In October, I attended the JD Law School Forum in Los Angeles. A part of this forum was to meet over 100+ law school representatives across the US and ask any questions you had regarding their school/programs. In addition, there were educational workshops in admission/LSAT essentials and financial aid. It was a great networking opportunity that helped make me become more confident in the law school admissions process. Highly recommend everyone to attend next year when the time comes!

This summer I interned in the Santa Ana Courts for the Waymakers Dispute Resolution company as a co mediator for certain cases. I was able to sit in on a court hearing for small claims cases, which would also result in creating restraining orders often times. The way it would work is if the judge decided the case was mediation-worthy, they would hand the plaintiff and the defendant to the mediators, where we would handle the situation outside of the court room and help them come to a resolution.

I attended the Inclusive Employer Networking night at Chapman this fall semester! The Career Center hosted it, and it was a great opportunity to practice my networking/professional skills. I have helped a multitude of students prepare for the event, so now it was time for me to do the same. I was able to use my elevator pitch, communicate effectively and professionally, and, most importantly, NETWORK!!! I talked to three employers total: Helton Law Group, FBI, and the District Attorney's office. All in all, it was a great experience, and I am glad I went!

US Consulate in Mexico City

This past summer, I had the superb opportunity to intern for the US Consulate in Mexico City. I was mostly shadowing and handling paperwork for various diplomats I worked under and was even able to meet the US ambassador of Mexico. ( I have beef with him) but still maintained professional composure.

I was able to draft documents like divorce papers, orders of protection, and more. I was also given the opportunity to interact with many attorneys on both sides, clients, and kids. After this experience, many of my professional skills like communication, networking, and writing, were enhanced.}}

This spring, I completed my second season as an Admission Fellow in the Office of Admission. During the college application cycle, fellows are responsible for conducting interviews with high school seniors who submit an application to Chapman University. We get to know the students on a more personal level and examine how well they would fit on our campus. After each interview, we were required to develop a report on the student and send cards to our students who were admitted. This role has taught me valuable traits of professionalism and opened my eyes to the other side of participating in an interview.

This summer I will be interning at the Clark County's District Attorney's Office in Las Vegas. I unfortunately do not have a picture but I've attached my email with the job offer.

I will be reviewing transcripts and reports, trial strategy discussions, assembling trial notebooks and exhibits, sorting and evaluating evidence, attending pretrial conferences with law enforcement officers and witnesses, and more. I will also have to maintain professionalism throughout, whether working with law enforcement, counsel, or victims, as well as maintaining professional dress.

Last summer, I interned at Berding & Weil LLP, a law firm that helped support victims of the Maui wildfires. I did much of everything: legal research, drafting letters to state officials, and helping organize case files. I was forced to be organized, write clearly, and carefully handle extremely sensitive information. It was a great chance to see what happens behind the scenes at a law firm. Working directly with the victims was an experience I'll never forget.

I conducted in-depth research on various artists and artworks, then developed a written analysis that connected the piece to broader conversations about gender euphoria, dysphoria, and representation in public spaces. It helped me engage with the intersection of visual art and identity politics in a thoughtful, meaningful way.

Georgia Geagan: Model United Nations Conference in New York City

I am part of the Model United Nations class here at Chapman University. As part of the class, we competed in a week long conference in New York City! We were each assigned a country and a committee from the United Nations. My partner and I represented Botswana under General Assembly 3. Our topic was helping solve the crisis of Refugees, Retournees, and Displaced Persons. We demonstrated professionalism by dressing in business professional attire, presenting speeches to our committee filled with over 200 students, utilizing our research knowledge to work closely with other countries to find solutions, and participating in diplomatic procedures and language within the committee sessions. Our resolution was passed and will be sent to the actual UN for review/ideas! The closing ceremony was held at the real United Nations in New York City, which was an amazing experience. We ended up placing in the top 10% of all schools! Overall, I learned so much and had a wonderful time!

This past August, I was lucky enough to serve Chapman University's Office of Residence Life and First Year Experience as an Orientation Coordinator! In my role, I worked with many different Chapman departments, including Event Operations, the tech team at Memorial Hall, Special Events, and more, to plan and execute all the programming for Orientation 2024. I was, additionally, in charge of a team of 30 OLs and served as their main point of contact throughout Orientation week and training. I created programming, came up with new and innovative ideas, and made connections that will last a lifetime! I also met Pete the Panther, and that was pretty cool.

Since my Freshman year at Chapman, I have worked at the Ticketing Services Office and have gained unforgettable experience working both in an office and with customer service. I have been lucky enough this year to work events across the Chapman campus and with many different departments. My supervisors and managers have been such amazing support systems and I have learned about customer service, ticketing software, thinking on my feet, and leading my peers in a kind and professional way. This past summer, I interned for a family law firm in India. I shadowed the main practicing attorney for the first month and then for the next two, I sat in on meetings. I took notes and even accompanied her to court. She took me through different individual cases and how she chooses her arguments for court. It was a very knowledgeable experience. My professional skills included listening actively, using professional language and learning how to write professional emails to clients.

Most recently I managed/worked one of the most unique events at work. I had a customer wanting us to go to her job and serve churros to her employees. Little did I know the employees were the officers at the San Pedro State Prison. There I served churros while also talking to them and getting to know a bit more of what they do. Since they had the ocean view with the ports in sight, we also talked about the slowing down of exports. Fun time being professional!

On May 15th, I attended an art exhibit at the Mexican Embassy where I (and my uncle) handed out churros and coffee to the guests. It was my first time inside the embassy, and it was a great experience. One of the employees often goes to our shop, and I was able to get in contact with her and get us into the event. It's times like these when having good connections with customers is very rewarding. I enjoy being able to organize and work these events, they're always very fun!

I attended a STEM networking and career night hosted by Schmid College this semester. When I first entered the room, I was intimidated to attempt networking with career professionals. However, my nervousness immediately disappeared once I started talking with Ms. Cauble. We discussed her path from graduating from Chapman as a biochemistry major and being on track to go to medical school, to switching two weeks post-graduating and getting her Ph.D. in epidemiology while conducting research at the City of Hope. By the end of the event, I got her contact information and connected with her on LinkedIn, which is pictured above.

I recently attended the Student Scholarly Symposium, where I talked with students about their research projects and supported my research group, which also presented. It was so interesting trying to explain our research to people without a background in Chemistry. While it was challenging, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I can't wait until I can present at an ACS conference.
