Oddysseus was not pleased when he saw Oddysseus using Polyphemus' cave for refuge and food. As a result, Polyphemus imprisons Oddysseus and his mates, for hopes of having them as a meal. Unfortunately, Oddysseus makes Polyphemus intoxicated before he's able to eat the rest of the crew. Then, Oddysseus stabbed him through his only seeing eye, leaving him blind. Oddysseus informed the cyclops, "Nobody—that's my name," so he would cry that this "Nobody" was hurting him, so as not to blow his cover. This would give the impression that everything is okay and that nobody is attacking the cyclops. Being the narcissistic person that he is, Oddysseus exposed his identity since he didn't want this nonexistent "Nobody" to get the credit for stabbing the cyclops. In Greek mythology, they were born from Gaea and Uranus. It is believed that they live in caves and herded sheep and goats The Greeks pictured them as savages that lived in a faraway land without law.  The cyclops usually symbolized the Greek's perspective of foreign countries.  During the war against gods and titans, the cyclops were freed and as gratitude, they made weapons for the god. Some famous ones are Zeus's lightning bolt, Poseidon's trident, and the helmet of Hades. There is one story about three cyclopes who were killed by Apollo. As a result, they haunted Mount Etna, a volcano. Greeks often thought of volcanoes as cyclopes due to the one hole representing one eye.
