Colonel Tye was an African American man in the time of the American Revolution that, like many others, sided with the Loyalists' cause! Although mistreated by the British, Tye was well-known for his leadership and fighting skills! He fought with a group called the Black Brigade, which accompanied on him during his well-known attacks on the Patriots! In 1780, Tye died of a shot in the wrist that caused a dangerous infection called Tetanus!

Sadly, most of the African Americans decided to side with Britain for two reasons.

Britain knew that the African Americans were most often slaves. This meant that they knew they would side with whoever gave them freedom! Therefore, Britain decided to free any slaves who belonged to the patriots, causing the African Americans to join their side!
George Washington prejudicedly decided that he didn't want the blacks to fight on his side, so he told his army recruiters not to enlist black soldiers. He planned to take all blacks out of "American Forces".

Not only was this man the first to die in the Boston Massacre, but he started it! His motive was to encourage everyone around him to stand up and fight against the British!
