There are many involuntary actions that only go to only the spinal cord and not the brain:
Blinking: Removes debris and keeps debris from getting in. It also moistens the eye to keep the eyelids from sticking to the eyeball.
Pulling finger away from heat: Keeps your finger from being obliterated.
