Hello, my name is Molly Davis. I graduated from the College of William & Mary in 2015 as a French and Secondary Education double major. After college I taught third grade in Oklahoma City for two years through TFA. This was an incredible experience for me - both challenging and rewarding. Technology definitely helped me in my first two years of teaching as children are surrounded by technology. I used GoNoodle as a brain break for kids. This website is free for educators to sign up and use in the classroom:

This is my fourth year of teaching Elementary school. I am currently teaching in the Bushwick burrow of Brooklyn, NY. Last year I taught third grade and this year I am teaching first grade (for the first time!) In the classroom we have a set of Chromebooks for every child. Our curriculum implements the use of ST Math, which is a website that my first graders LOVE. They play math games and get excited about moving up in levels. I've attached a picture of our ST Math tracker and a link to learn more about ST Math.

Last year, my co-teacher and I used Google Classroom with our 3rd graders. We had our kiddos write "opinion essays" on their Chromebooks. It was fun to edit their work in-real-time using Google Classroom.

I first learned about the ISTE standards in a technology class I took at the William & Mary Education School. I love that there are standards for empowering students to work with technology. My goal this year is to implement the following standards, which stand out to me as excellent for 1st graders:
Empowered Learner
Computational Thinker
Creative Communicator

I would love to hear from you all! What are some ways in which you have/will implement these standards into the classroom?

This diagram of "learning interactions" stood out to me because of the complex dynamics between student, teacher, and content. Deep, meaningful learning happens when there is a balance of knowledge between the teacher and student. The content will not exist on it's own, without a relationship built between the teacher and the content and the teacher and the student. I am excited to dive deeper into this relationship and look forward to learning how to implement technology into content as much as possible.

Source:
Anderson, 2016, p.36
