1- Modules & Activities

The course is made up of 4 modules, each one of which includes the following elements:

• Introduction video: Each module includes a short introductory video explaining the learning objectives and structure of each module.

• Video Talks, Interviews, Lesson Observations: Each module will feature a number of videos that include presentations, interviews and lesson observations highlighting a relevant topic of the module. 

• Module discussions/tasks: Underneath each video there will be a place to provide a reaction to the video and discuss issues raised in the task for that section. Make sure to browse what other course participants have said and add your own voice to the discussion.
• Module activity: This section describes the learning activity to be carried out during the week of the module and focuses on building your learning diary. In the final module you will be asked to draft a lesson plan, add this to your learning diary and then submit your learning diary for peer review. Make sure to check out the learning diary section for more information.

• Quiz: This section contains a short quiz which you are required to complete at the end of each module, to determine what you have learned during the module. 

I am a teacher of English and European Projects Head Coordinator at TOROS College MERSİN / TURKEY.I have been working with European projects for about 5 years.I have a teachers room ineTwinning portal named Ideas For Teaching English.I am a teacher trainer and I am ITEC Project pilot teacher trainer. I like to improve my personal and professional development through webinars,online seminers, learning events and educational  courses.

Learning Objectives for this Module:

1. Develop a clear understanding of what the term computing refers to and to reflect about the role of computing in your country
2. Acquire a broad understanding why computing and coding in particular are relevant to our student's lives and their understanding of the world around them
3. Understand the variety of skills that can be developed using computing
4. Develop an understanding of the concept of computational thinking

The term computing is so broad and vague for many of us that we replace it quite randomly with other terms such as ICT, programming, coding, computer science, informatics, etc. However, these terms are not the same and we should understand the difference in order to decide better what areas to focus on.

Most recently there has been a strong push towards a focus on coding in the classroom. And this recent push for coding in the classroom is also what triggered this course. However, while the course will indeed have a strong focus on teaching coding in the classroom, we don't want to completely ignore the other areas that can be captured under the broad term computing.

Computing as a topic or even subject is quite rarely embedded into what is taught at primary schools. And many might argue that it is a much too technical topic to be relevant at primary level. That computing does not necessarily need to be very technical is something we look at later in the course but even if it were, there are many reasons why we should be looking at computing with students at a very early age. 

The videos in this module provide you with a range of reasons why computing-related skills and knowledge are fundamentally important for the lives of our students and not just for the sake of understanding technology. The key about learning to programme is that it is a transferable skill that can be used in many different areas of life.

I believe that coding is as important as maths, chemistry , biology etc..because;

-It  provides 21st century skills necessary for innovation and translates to high-paying, in-demand jobs and it is increasingly necessary for community improvement, students' future opportunities, and local and national innovation.

- It can make curriculum more relevant for students.

- Can help teachers better meet accountability goals.

girls and boys are interested in computing.And maybe girls are more successful !

Because they are  are more  eager to learn new things, to acquire new computing skills, and they add a huge value to a group when they

are involved in coding.  Girls have imagination and creativeness and they have the tendency to be very precise while the boys love to talk

and make scratch games. At the beginning of this year,we took part in Hour of Code and mast of fast learner students were girls! By the

way;  I don't use different teaching ways between girls and boys and I don’t need to do that.
