This is a fantastic book for children from kindergarten to first grade. It would be great to read around the Easter holiday. It is about a duck who doesn't believe he can swim. He must confront his fear of swimming in a nearby pond. He sees his mother, brothers, and sisters happily swimming in the pond. His friends like the owl and the frog try to boost his confidence by saying "Just slide in fast: don't even think/ you're a duck and ducks don't sink". said the frog. This book has many rhyming pages that can make the kids giggle in their seats. This quiet an amazing story to the young eye. I remember reading this story as a child and thinking how hard some people in the world live their lives. This story is about a twelve year old boy. His name is Tree-ear. He is an orphan who has a protector and his name is Crane-man. They both live under a bridge together in an old Korean town, Ch'ulp'o. Crane-man scavenges food from local dumpsters to provide for Tree-ear. Tree-ear enjoys hiding in buses and he sees a man, Min, who is very talented for making pottery. Ch'ulp'o is known for their pottery. He watches him make it and that's how he makes his living. Tree-ear seeks out to find where Min lives and admires a piece of his and he, by accident breaks it. To repay Min, Tree-ear must work for him for nine days. He works hard labor days and finally pays off Min. Then he wishes to work for Min as a more permeant job. Mins wife gives him food and clothes that Tree-ear shares with crane-man.  There is a job opening for the king as a pottery maker. Tree-ear takes Mins work to the king. What did he just do? This book had its turns and funny chapters. Stanley Yelnats had a great grandfather who stole, lied, and cheated. He is under a great curse due to his great grandfather. Stanley is sent to a boys detention center where he digs holes all day as a form of learning from his actions. He ends up breaking the family curse.
This book was never at a stand still or dull. It kept me interested and asking questions. The curse itself was the main thing I questioned. But when Stanley and Hector 'Zero' dug and found a treasure box with their name on it, the curse was then broken. Then everything was pieced together for me. Would I read this book again? It creates a new world from a few different stories put into one book. Its comical and strange but the children can relate to this since their imagination is huge. This story has lots of twists and turns. Its one of those stories that you cant miss a single page or you will be lost for the rest of the book. It starts off as the story of the three little pigs and the big bad wolf huffing and puffing all their houses down. Then it takes the first turn of the pigs flying off the page to a blank page where they can travel to another story to escape the wolf. They encounter another story of staying a dragon and bring that dragon back with them so he can take care of the big bad wolf. Oh my! How I love this book! Its great for children starting to transition from picture books to something a little harder. Its a short story of cinderella and her two ugly step sister and mother. They make her life miserable. When they are invited to the ball, a ball with a handsome prince, they make it clear that cinderella cannot go. However, with the help of her rodent friends and fairy god mother, they make a beautiful dress for cinderella to go to the ball. She attends and dances with the prince until midnight where she then has to race her family back home before they know she was gone. On the way out, she loses her glass slipper, and the prince is determined to find the owner of the show, the gal he dances and fell in love with at the ball. Many try on the shoe, including the ugly step sisters and the step mother and does not fit. Cinderella is demanded downstairs as the prince wanted EVERYONE in that house to try on the glass slipper. It fits perfectly and they live happily ever after. This book is extremely vivid with all the pictures, colors, and illustrations. It starts off with a girl and a king. The kings orders the girl to spin his straw into gold. If she fails, she will die. She is locked into a room with a spin machine and beds of straw. She is worried and anxious as a little man enters the room. He says he can and will do it for her in something in return. So she gives the little man her necklace. He spins the straw into gold and returns home. The king is so very pleased, but no satisfied. He is a greedy king and wants more. The next day he demands the same order. This time its a bigger room and more straw. Once again, the little man comes in and the girl gives him her ring in return of his work. She wakes up the next day and the King wants more gold. She is locked away in a even larger room with mountains of straw to be spun into gold. In return, she can become his wife as he will never find a more richer wife. One more time, the little man comes in and asks what he can have in return for his work. She had nothing more to give him. He thinks hard and says if when she becomes the Kings wife, her first born child will be his. She thought that she would never have a child, so she agrees. This book kept me engaged all the way until the end. The ending has lots of energy and tension. Even I was worried. This is a story that will be great to read aloud in a third to fourth grade class!

Do you remember reading this book? Remember when it came out? We were wee lads. We were about about two years old. When we heard about this amazing series, we were in the fifth or sixth grade. I'd say we were about ten years old. My older brother, Michael was the first to bring it home. When he finished reading it, i took a gander at it. As did you. We read these cherished books. Out nose never left the spine. I am writing you today because I have just learned that this series is on the banned list. Crazy, right? It has something to do with demons and violence. They say children shouldn't be reading books like these. I call rubbish! These books were amazing. Anyways, text me later!

This book takes you way back to the depression era. It has new love, old love, heart break, and death. Daniel "Danny" Garvey sees it all before he gets in high school. This story made me shed a tear. A pregnant mother, a son, a daughter, and a father are bound together by hope and love, Daniel, the father must leave to the big city of NYC to find work as he and his family are struggling to keep their home. Months pass and they only receive letters from the father. He promises to try to make it home for Christmas. We soon find out Ma is pregnant. She almost dies during birth and Pa hasn't sent any letters lately. Danny looks for whatever work he can to help support their family. Hank, the man with the funny southern accent joins the story. Ma and Hank somehow made a connection. Pa has passed looking for work. I never read much as a child. My best friend loved to read. I never cared much for it. There was this one day we were in the third or forth grade and we had to go to the library to pick out a book for a reading project. I was not looking forward to it. However, I decided to have a look around since my teacher was watching us. I went to a random isle, in a random spot, and picked out a random book. It was this book called "Three Days".  My teacher said it was time to check out. So i checked out that book and actually read it. Not only that, it was the first chapter book i ever read. I loved it. I was so proud of myself. This story has so much to tell. It begins in the concentration camps. A Jewish boy is behind a fence where a striped uniform. Another boy, about the same age, sees him. They become friends. In the end, the boy in striped pajamas never returns. I recommend this book because it teaches about the concentration camps and what happened to the Jews. Although it has a tragic ending, students are able to gain basic understanding about what has happened. For the movie lovers, I also recommend the movie. This was a book full of laughs, anger, and tears. Charlie, the main character, lived with his two parents and both of his parents, parents. So there were seven of them crammed in an old house they could barley afford. They only had one bed that was reserved for the grand parents. Charlie and his grandpa win a golden ticket to Mr. Wonkas chocolate factory. The child with the best behavior would win the special prize at the end of the tour. Easy, right? This book is full of mischief and giggles. You have to read it! Ill send it over to you!

This book is very informational. There is much to be learned from it. I didnt know how tiny (less than two inches long) sea turtles are when they hatch from their egg. Yes, they are hatched! I also heard strong vocabulary and some impressive illustrations. I thought this book was incredible. Ada and her brother, Jamie, survived cruel and abusive punishment from their mother. Just in time, children were needing to evacuate due to WWII. They were sent to not such a nice woman, Susan, who ends up being their friend and savior. If I can find a movie based on this book, I would love to watch that as well.
