This update is late but as of 10/29 we had determined that our lesson will include graphing the movement of the robot in one group and figuring out the difference between this robot and a "slower" fictional robot.
Graph points on the coordinate plane to solve real-world and mathematical problems.

Standards:
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.G.A.1
Use a pair of perpendicular number lines, called axes, to define a coordinate system, with the intersection of the lines (the origin) arranged to coincide with the 0 on each line and a given point in the plane located by using an ordered pair of numbers, called its coordinates. Understand that the first number indicates how far to travel from the origin in the direction of one axis, and the second number indicates how far to travel in the direction of the second axis, with the convention that the names of the two axes and the coordinates correspond (e.g., x-axis and x-coordinate, y-axis and y-coordinate).

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.G.A.2
Represent real world and mathematical problems by graphing points in the first quadrant of the coordinate plane, and interpret coordinate values of points in the context of the situation.

Text:
The textbooks for CIED 441 support this assignment by stating that the use of technology is helpful for showing students real world examples but also in having a creative and fun way to do it.

As of today, we have built the robot and attempted programming. It was a rough go at first but we were able to use the robots prior programming to make it move.

On 11/16 we went in to the STEM center to ask questions about the project. We had downloaded the wrong programming software so Colin helped us get the right software onto Jake's laptop and we were able to explore the robot's abilities a little more. Since the robot was due today we messed with the programming and took some measurements that we feel would be most beneficial to the project then returned it.

As for use in the classroom, I will not be using this particular technology. I feel that technology integration is important but this piece of equipment is much more time consuming than useful.

~Tia
