I have been given an assignment by director Ann Tate to devise and perform a piece with the theme of 'The Greatest Showman' for The Business Awards. The Business Awards is a performance with professional West End performers at Baths Hall in Scunthorpe. The Greatest Showman follows story of a tailors son from Connecticut, who gets laid off from his Dickensian office job he along with his wife and daughters seek to make money in the most imaginative was they can. To start with Barnum opens a seemingly unsuccessful museum. With ticket sales and takings low Barnum seeks a gimmick. He finds one in a dwarf named Charles (Sam Humphrey). Meeting Charles gives Barnum the idea to recruit and showcase “oddities” for his recently named ‘circus’. After recruiting these 'oddities' the show is ultimately a hit however Barnum is still not happy as he craves to attract the carriage trade that have looked down on him for so many years and please wealthy critics. To do this he recruits Phillip Carlyle (Zac Effron) a wealthy playwright and focusses his attention on Swedish Songbird Jenny Lind (Rebecca Ferguson) a famous opera singer. This leads to a range Barnum becoming blind sighted by his own success and with success comes scandals such as Carlyle’s relationship with mixed raced trapeze artist Anne Wheeler (Zendaya) and Barnum’s suspected affair with the Swedish nightingale. After scenes of self-reflection Barnum realizes that he has lost sight of what was important and the film ultimately gets its happy ending.

The target audience that we need to appeal to is adult business me and women because that is who will be attending the event. We will attract this audience by making the performance a large and unique spectacle while still keeping with the theme. I think we could do this by using large an eye-catching costumes, large lifts, complex makeup, large set design and showcasing unique tricks & skills because this will appeal to the audience as it will make our version stand out from other versions as it will be glamorous and visually pleasing. This means that our performance will be more memorable and entertaining to them as the show and its music is very overdone. Therefore, creating a positive long lasting impact on them as they are more likely to be entertained which leads to the college and us as performers gaining a good reputation.

Within this assignment we have to take on a role in the creation and development of the performance. During this process I have been given the option to follow two distinct pathways whichever pathway I choose I have to contribute to the planning of the piece.
The first option is to contribute to the script writing, costume design, lighting design, set design, directing and rehearsals of an acting scene.
The second option is to contribute to the choreography, costume ideas, lighting design, set design, rehearsals and performance of a dance piece.
The role that I wish to take on is the role of a choreographer because I think that I think I have some really creative and eye-catching ideas for the performance which I would like to convey and devise to test my leadership skills and challenge myself. This means that I can both simultaneously work on my communication skills while also making the performance the spectacle in needs to be. This means that I need to consider the performers abilities, the venue set up and the target audience in order to create a successful routine. Therefore, creating a greater positive impact on the audience that is memorable for the right reasons.

Myself and the rest of the cast have a three week deadline to complete our assignment. A positive of this is that we are likley to become more motivated to complete our assignment because we have such a short space of time to complete what is asked of us. This is more likely to lead to less procrastonation and more work being done. Therefore, making us more productive as a team which leads to better choreography being produced. A negative of this short time span is that we dont have long to do it this is has a negative impact because it causes alot of stress and puts alot of pressure on the cast as a whole. This could lead to poor preperation, communication and motivation. Therefore, possibly having a negative impact on the work and choreography produced.

Looking at the assignment brief has made me contimplate and analyse the venue of the performance. During the performance the audience will be sat at tables instead of in rows. This makes the venue a little bit more intimate which I think we could use to our advantage. One idea that came from analysing this is that we could carry out some choreography within the audience and interact with them because this creates more of a unique and emersive performances between ourselves and the audience. This also leads to the audience becoming victim to the eliment of suprise. Therefore, allowing them to become more engaged in the performance, making our impact more successful.

In 1842 the boy was signed up at just the age of four though Barnum stated to audiences that he was eleven to avoid controversy. At this age he was said to be a mere 25 inches tall. During his time with Barnum he also received an audience with Abraham Lincoln and Queen Victoria as reported by the BBC (2014) "A performer who shot to fame in the 1840s, watched by 50 million people worldwide, and a firm favourite with both Queen Victoria and Abraham Lincoln.

In the winter of 1842, legendary showman PT Barnum was stranded in Stratton's hometown of Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Charity Barnum in the film 'The Greatest Showman' is played by Michelle Williams. The feature film also stars Barnum's two daughters. However, Barnum had four daughters in total which proves that the films story and portrayal is not entirely accurate. This is supported by Cachero P who stated ''They were married for 44 years, and together had four girls, three of whom survived to adulthood.'' and ''Barnum's wife is played by Michelle Williams in the big-screen musical.''
Image From Google

Character in The Greatest Showman

A similar character to The Cowboy Giant was portrayed in the film 'The Greatest Showman' his name in the film was O'Clancy played by Radu Spinghel. As reported by Collin R (2017) and The Telegraph who explains when talking about the characters ''an “Irish” giant (Radu Spinghel)'' From watching the movie I made many observations on how the character differed slightly from reality. One way the films portrayal is similar is that they were both had a disease called gigantism. This meant that they both had similar roles within the circus and the story. Therefore, accurately portraying the character to the audience. From my observations the films portrayal also differs in many ways one of which is the name of his act and how big of a part he played in the circus because in the film he is a very minute character that doesn't appear to be an audience favourite however, in reality the The Cowboy Giant was very popular particularly in his years with the Ringling brothers This is supported by The International Independent Showman's museum (2007) who state ''When Ringling Bros Barnum and Bailey Circus came to El Paso and had a man working for them who was billed as the worlds tallest man. Jack Earle’s friends challenged him to go see just how tall that giant was. At seven feet five inches tall Jim Tarver was still thirteen inches shorter then Jack the Giant. Jack Earle was hired on the spot. The circus offered him a one year contact which turned into fourteen years.'' Therefore, by not developing the character more by sharing some of this information in the movie the audience may have missed an interestig character arc.
Image From Google

General Tom Thumb was portrayed in a fairly accurate way during the motion picture by Australian actor Sam Humphrey who is 80 inches tall as reported by Cachero P at The Hollywood Reporter (2017) who explains that ''Stratton is played by 23-year-old Australian actor Sam Humphrey, who stands at 50 inches''. Upon viewing the feature film 'The Greatest Showman' myself I feel that Charles (General Tom Thumb) was portrayed fairly accurately. For example, it is shown in the motion picture that he gains an audience with Queen Victoria which actually occured in real life as reported by the BBC (2014) who quoted that he was ''a firm favourite with both Queen Victoria and Abraham Lincoln.

I felt like adding this scene to the movie made the narrative more successful because it conveyed a more realistic and accurate storyline to the audiences. This meant that the audience could gain a greater understanding of the real people behind each character. Therefore, making each portrayal more historically believable and informative to the viewer. However, like many documentary dramas the truth can be slightly manipulated for cinematic purposes. One inaccuracy I found upon viewing was that Charles (General Tom Thumb) appeared to be an adult when meeting Barnum. This is inaccurate because in reality General Tom Thumb met Barnum and joined the circus when he was just four years old as expressed by Cachero P at The Hollywood Reporter (2017) ''Barnum, already famous for his exhibition of human oddities, discovered the extraordinarily tiny boy at 4 years old and immediately signed him on as an attraction for Barnum's New York Museum.'' This meant that the narrative was not portrayed realistically or accurately to the audience. Therefore, causing them to not question P.T Barnums true character about signing up a young child to a life performing at the circus.
Image From Google

Character in The Greatest Showman

In the Greatest Showman the character of Annie Jones is played by Keala Settle. Similar to that of General Tom Thumb the character portrayal of Annie Jones is fairly accurate from her looks in which she posseses facial hair as well as being showcased by Barnum for her musical talents also as reported by Cachero P and The Hollywood Reporter who stated ''she also came to be known for her musical talents and gracious etiquette.'' Keala Settle musical talents as the real Annie Jones' herself were showcased frequently during the movie and its soundtrack, having parts in songs such as 'This Is Me', 'The Greatest Show', 'From Now On' and 'Come Alive'. From my own perspective this made the narrative more successful because it gave the character more authenticity within the story. This lead to a more realistic portrayal of what Annie Jones would have been like and performed like when working for P.T Barnum in his circus. Therefore, allowing audiences to understand the world in which the story/the movies narrative of P.T Barnum actually came from and the roles in which each performer undertook when working at the circus.

On the other hand, there were a few inconsistencies within The Greatest Showman concerning Annie Jones' character because similar to that of General Tom thumb the motion picture shows Barnum discovering Annie Jones when she is an adult. However, from my research I have found this not to be true as Barnum actually discovered/hired Jones when she was just one years old. This is supported by Guy C and The Human Marvels (2008) who proclaimed that ''When she was little more than a year in age, Annie was brought to New York City to be featured in Barnum’s museum as ‘The Infant Esau’.'' This meant that the stories portrayal is not historically accurate due to the film having to condense the storyline and various character arcs. Therefore, not conveying a true and accurate interpritations of the story and the personel that it involves.
Image From Google

About Jenny Lind
Sweedish Songbird Jenny Lind was born on 6 October 1820. This is supported by Rosen C who informs that ''Lind [married name Lind-Goldschmidt], Jenny [Johanna Maria] (1820–1887), singer, was born on 6 October 1820''. In the film 'The Greatest Showman' Jenny Lind is portrayed by Swedish actress Rebecca Ferguson, this is supported by Cachero P at The Hollywood Reporter (2017) who informs ''Rebecca Ferguson, also Swedish, was tapped in early September 2016 to play this role''. However, her vocals were dubbed by Loren Allred, this is information is supported by Roberts M who states that thesong 'Never Enough' is ''dubbed by Loren Allred''. The Greatest Showman portrays Linds character quite accuratelly because it shows Lind as a successful opera singer and about her carreer with Barnum. From carrying out additional research I have gathered that she became very popular at a very early age specifically around Europe and was a firm favourite with Queen Victoria as reported by Roberts M and Classic FM (2018) who explained that ''By her early teens, she was a renowned opera singer.'' and ''At Jenny Lind’s London début in 1847 at the Haymarket, she gave a performance so arresting that Queen Victoria threw a bouquet of flowers at her feet.''
Relationship With Barnum
Upon viewing The Greatest Showman it is implied that Lind and Barnum were Romantically involve however, this is purely dramatised and is in fact false. This is supported Kellem B and Vanity Fair (2017) who states when talking about their 'romantic relationship' that ''The love triangle is, however attractive, a fiction.''. This may be seen as a negative poit to some critics/historians because it conveys a large plot development that is counter factual. This means that the films viewers are being convinced of an untrue story. Therefore, inacurately portraying the true narrative of Barnums life.

This means that as a choreographer certain moves and sequences can be used to convey each one of their stories or what their disfigurement is. For example, to emote the character of The Bearded Lady as the choreographer, I could get my performers to shield their faces to the audience to imply to the audience that they don't want to be seen. Therefore, allowing the audience to understand that the characters feel ashamed in order to emotionally move them.

The second adaptation that I researched was Barnum The Musical. The musical tells the story of P.T Barnum as he is torn between his wife and his business with the circus as well as exploring his relationships with its performers including The Oldest Woman, Tom Thumb and Jenny Lind. This is advocated by Stage Agent (2008) who states ''Barnum tells the story of the Prince of Humbug, Phineas Taylor Barnum. Over the objections of his wife, Charity, Barnum attempts to create a show in which the main attractions are freaks of society. Included in this mix of characters includes the oldest women alive, Joice Heth, the smallest man in the world, Tom Thumb, and to top it all off, a glamorous Swedish opera singer, Jenny Lind''. Over the years there has been many showcases of this musical both in the West End and Broadway. The version in particular that I am going to be talking about is the 2014 tour of Barnum staring Brian Conely as the main protagonst himself as reported by Shenton M and The Stage (2014) who reports ''Conley had put himself forward for the title role in Barnum''. The show is based off the original book written by Mark Bramble with it's soundtrack is written by none other than Cy Coleman and Michael Stewart. This is supported by Shenton M and The Stage (2014) who states ''music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by Michael Stewart and book by Mark Bramble''

During Ghost The Musical Wallen uses various techniques within his choreography in order to make his work more dynamic and successful. His choreography used in GHOST is mainly commercial in style however, one technique Wallen uses is that he combines different styles of dance for example the way he combines commercial dance with elements of classical musical theatre because this convey's a more dynamic and artistic approach to the dance numbers as well as conveying each characters journey and part within the storyline of the musical. This is supported by Dance Life Australia (2016) in an interview with Wallen himself who reports ''Overall, it’s commercial dancing but even I still add little bits of old style musical chore to my work in an updated way.'' and ''I use different styles of dance to tell the story of each character.'' This means that the audience is likely to connect with the story and the movements of each character more. Therefore, creating an overall stronger narrative and a larger impact on each audience member.

Another Technique used by Ashley Wallen in his choreography is creating movement that changes pace because this makes each section of choreography more dynamic. This is also supprted by Dance Life Australia (2016) and their interview with Wallen himself who explains ''the dancers play with different speeds and energies going from slow motion to fast, rewind things.'' By using this technique of playing around with the dynamics of the piece it leads to the choreography becoming less predictable and more engaging to the audience. Watching and dissecting the choreography is useful because it allows me to identify the useful theories and techniques used by Wallen. This means that I can then take inspiration for my own practice and re work them to fit my own style and ideas when we start the choreographing and rehearsal period after I have carried out my research . Therefore, helping me create a piece that is appealing and engaging to audiences.

One technique that Wallen used when choreographing certain dance numbers including 'From Now On' is the use of props within the choreography because this made the piece more aesthetically pleasing and eyecatching to the audience as various everyday objects were used in non convential ways. Some examples of these props used were hats, canes, beer glasses etc. This also meant that the viewers were more engaged in the piece as the choreography was less predictable. Therefore, making the movie musical stand out from other movie musicals that proceeded it.

Another technique Wallen uses in his choreography is the use of cannon motif between its performers. An example of this is in the Reprised of the musical number The Greatest Show in which Barnums hat is passed from character to character. I will use this as inspiration for my own choreography because it shows the connection between each character. This leads to the viewers feeling the connection and feeling of unity between the characters. Therefore, making the viewer relate to the camaraderie of the group and reflect on their own personal relationships which makes them feel closer to the narrative.

Carrying out research on Barnum the musical, The Greatest Showman, GHOST and its choreography helps me with my own practice because it allows me to see how Barnums story is portrayed as well as what choreographical techniques are successful and impactful. This means that I can use these techniques and narratives as a base for my own piece of choreography by taking inspiration from it. Therefore, creating a more successful piece with audiences.

There are many similarities and differences between The Greatest Showman and Barnum the musical. Comparing and Conrasting both versions of Barnums story is useful to my practice as a choreographer because it allows me to compare each characters portrayal as well as how each choreographer conveys the story through different movements and techniques. This means I can see what techniques are successful within both pieces. Therefore, influencing my own practice as I will also use these techniques when choreographing myself.

One overall similarity between The Greatest Showman and the musical Barnum is the exploration between Barnums supposed 'affair' with opera singer Jenny Lind. I think this is a key plot feature in both versions because it brings drama and hyperbole to the narrative. Therefore, keeping the audience/viewer more engaged in the movie/musical.
An overall different between both adaptations is the character portrayal of the character Barnum himself because in The Greatest Showman Barnum is portrayed as a kind family man where as in Barnum the musical Barnum is portrayed as a selfish philanthropist. Looking at this lead to me questoning who Barnum actually was in real life. Therefore, allowing me to decide how I want him to be portrayed in my own piece.

A similarity between Wallen's and Wright's choreography is that both choreographers use props within their work because this captivates the audiences/viewers attention within each piece. This meant that each routine would have larger long lasting impact on the audience/viewer. Therefore, making each piece stand out and resonate with them in comparison to other musicals/movie musicals.
A difference between the choreography of Wallen and Wright is the style of both their choreography because Wright's choreography is classical musical theatre where as Wallens is alot more modern in style with influences from jazz and commercial dance. This has lead me to consider what style I will adapt in my own choreography. Therefore, making for a more successful routine that is influenced by both choreographers.

There are two major themes that are explored during The Greatest Showman which are Family and Acceptance of yourself and those around you. These themes are used throughout the film, identifying these is useful to my practice as a choreographer as it allows me to incorporate these themes into my own choreography because both these themes allow the viewer to personally relate to the storyline and the characters by reflecting on their own family relationships and acceptance. This means they are likely to become more connected with the characters and the narrative. Therefore, allowing the viewer to feel more emotionally invested in the motion picture.

I researched the present climate of performing arts because it allowed me to identify how my chosen job role of a choreographer is impacted by social, historical and economic factors. This then allows me to understand my job roles and what problem I could face within the industry. Therefore, allowing me to become more aware and knowledgable if I choose this as a career.
The last economic global downturn was in 2009 however, the recession began to recover around 2010. This is supported by Madden C (2009) who states ''The world’s ‘advanced’ economies are expected to contract by around three to four percent in 2009'' and ''Recovery from the economic downturn is forecast to begin in 2010, but it is expected to be slow.''. This global recession was predicted to have a mildly negative impact on the arts in general this resulted in less finantial support from foundations for education and businesses and overall less sponsorship for the arts and the people that work in it This is supported by Madden C (2009) who informs ''The downturn will have a ‘mildly negative’ impact on the arts.'' and ''The downturn will have strongly negative impacts on sponsorship, philanthropic giving from foundations, and endowment income revenue.''. A positive impact of the economic downturn was that globally this caused audiences to watch and become more involved in the arts because they saw it as a release and a source of joy throughout this troubling time. This meant that ticket sales rose and more people became more invested in the arts whether that be on stage or screen. Therefore, creating more revenue within the sector. This is also supported by Madden C (2009) who suggests ''Some positives may arise out of the downturn, particularly due to the arts’ ability to provide both a ‘feel good’ factor and critical and timely debate.''

The Greatest Showman
The Greatest Showman has had a hugely positive impact on Performing Arts because it has captivated all generations from young children to the older generation. I have personally experienced this in many ways, one of which is that my grandmother and many of the people I know that are over 50 enjoy the movie musical and are familiar with the songs and enjoy the narrative. My other experience of this was that when performing the number 'A Million Dreams' the nursery and primary school who were watching the show sang all the words with us, this showed me how impactful the motion picture really was. By captivating all generations it really gives The Greatest Showman the monopoly on movie musicals which will improve sales of merchandise, the sound track and the movie itself. Therefore, pumping money back into the arts and the global economy.

There are many responsibilities that I have to uphold as a choreographer within the industry and my own project of choreographing 'From Now On' one of which is to be both reliable and punctual because this shows your dancers that you are proffessional and investend in your work. This leads to the dancers resepecting you and your work more. Therefore, creating an overall more positive working environment between dancer and choreographer.

Another responsibility that I have to uphold as a choreographer within the industry and my own project is to make sure I properly warm up myself and my dancers because this prevents injury within the company. This means I have to carry out an appropriate warm up before each rehearsal including cardio and stretches to improve stamina and warms up muscles in the body. Therefore, making sure all dancers are fit and healthy to carry out every rehearsal to maximise productivity.

The final major responsibility that I have to uphold as a choreographer within the industry and my own prodject is to finish my choreography within the deadline that I have been given because if I do not it will convey to my employer that I am unprofessional. This could lead to me gaining a bad reputation in the industry. Therefore, limiting the jobs that I would get and the revenue that I make.

When choreographing for the business awards I have to be careful about certain things and take into account various factors one of which is that I have to be careful when choreographing in certain dance spaces especially large spaces because I may over estimate the size of the Baths Hall and over choreograph. This could lead to the dancers not being able to carry out the choreography to the best of their abilities as they are likely to be worried about hitting eachother. Therefore, making the piece look messy and unrehearsed.

Another thing I need to be careful of when choreographing is taking into account all my dancers abilities because I have various abilities of performers. This means I need to adapt my choreography to stretch and challenge the more experienced dancers as well as making the choreography achievable for those less experienced by splitting the choreography into sections and working one to one with the less experienced dancers.

Today myself and my fellow dancers/choreographers started the choreography and rehearsal process. To start of with I decided to carry out a warm up with everyone because this prevents injury to the dancers. This also sets a good example to your dancers on how to properly condition and take care of the body using cardio and various stretches targeted at different muscles. Therefore, conveying an air of proffesionalism around your practice.

Myslelf and my fellow choreographers decided to work together and bounce of each others ideas to form the piece. My first idea was to incorporate chairs because not only does it fit in with the bar setting in which the song 'From Now On' is set in but it is also an effective use of props similar to that of the use of props within Wallen's and Wright's choreography. Using this choreographical technique leads to a more aesthetically pleasing piece of choreography that is proven to be eyecatching to audiences as seen in the various shows that Wallen and Wright have choreographed in, such as Barnum, GHOST the musical and The Greatest Showman. Therefore, leaving a lasting impression on audiences causing the choreography to be overall more successful.

Another technique that I used within my choreography is the use of canon similar to that of what Ashley Wallen uses in his own choreography because the use of canon looks very aesthetically pleasing to the audience. This means they are likely to be more engaged in the dance and the narrative that is being portrayed within the choreography. Therefore, creating an overall more successful piece.

Feedback was given in todays rehearsal by tutors and some of the dancers in the piece. This feedback helped me identify my strengths in todays rehearsal. One strength that I had was my ability to choreograph for a range of different experiences because some of the dancers I have are very experienced and some of them are first time dancers. This lead me to split some of the choreography up into easy and harder sections in order to stretch and challenge the more experienced while still making sure the less experienced are capable and comfortable in carrying out the choreography. Therefore, making the piece more successful.

Another strength that I had was that myself and the rest of the choreographers worked very well together as a team because we listened to eachother and communicated our ideas to eachother in a successful manner. This meant that various techniques were successful such as the canon for example as we communicated well. Therefore, creating an overall more engaging and dynamic piece

As well as positive feedback myself and my choreography also received negative feedback. Receiving this feedback allowed me to identify my weaknesses in this rehearsal. A problem that arose in todays rehearsal as a choreographer was that the dance space we were working in was to small this caused a weakness in my choreography because my dancers kept bumping into eachother as they were in too close in proximity. This meant that they could not learn or carry out the choreography to the best of their ability. Therefore, making the piece messy and less aesthetic.

Another weakness that I had in this lesson was that I kept forgetting minor details of choreography because of mental fatigue. This meant that some of the dancers that were mirroring me also went wrong. Therefore, the dancers did not look as cohesive as a group.

This means that the choreography will look alot more aesthetic. Therefore, audiences will enjoy it more.

My next target is to focus on remembering choreography because this sets an example to your dancers to also remember it. This means that they will respect you more which gives you a good reputation with them. Therefore, they are more likely to put more effort and energy into the dance.

Todays rehearsal was carried out in the theatre as it is a larger rehearsal space. I carried out a warm up as usual then began choreographing the faster section of the routine. The main technique that I used in this lesson was changing paces of the choreography from a slow tempo to an uptempo section influenced by choregrapher Ashley Wallen particularly in GHOST the musical. I wanted to use this technique because it conveys the change in the emotion in the piece from sadness to joy and unity. This leads to the audience becoming more emotionally connected with the piece and its characters. Therefore, leaving a larger lasting impression on them.

The most successful choreographical technique that I used was a cannon motif of poses. As a choreographer I chose to untilize this technique because it has already been proven to be a successful and eyecatching technique by Greatest Showman choreographer Ashley Wallen who uses it in many routines such as 'From Now On' and 'The Greatest Show'. Using this technique means that the piece is likely to look more dynamic and aesthetically pleasing to the audience as well as conveying the overall meassage of unity and standing by eachother. One strength that was mentioned in feedback by a tutor was my ability to come up with imaginative and inovative ideas even if some were more succesful than others. This is because I thought outside the box with various ideas and techniques in order to try and attract audiences. This meant that that my choreography was eye catching and unique. Therefore, making it more memorable to audiences.

This lead to an improvement in overall productivity from last rehearsal. Therefore, making up the time wasted last lesson.

In todays lesson I used various techniques the main choreographical technique that I used was mixing techniques which was inspired by Greatest Showman choreographer Ashley Wallen who in alot of his work mixed classical styles with commercial choreography. I chose to however mix three styles classical, commercial and musical theatre. I chose to utilzie the musical theatre style because it fits the style of the piece, it is also a successful style used by Andrew Wright in the musical Barnum. I decided to mix styles together because it creates a more unique piece. This leads to each movement being more dynamic and memorable to audiences. Therefore, making the piece more successful.

I have decided to evaluate the final performance of my choreographed piece because analyzing my strengths and weaknesses allows me improve my practice overall. This means that I can now become better at being a choreographer which may help me in my future carreer pathway. Therefore, making me more successful in the industry.

During this performance my routine had many strengths and weaknessed. One strength that my routine had in the final performance was that the piece was a large eye catching spectacle because all dancers were in time and syncronised with eachother and the music which was especially useful when carrying out the group canon section. This meant that the choreography was very aesthetically pleasing to the audience. Therefore, making the piece more enjoyable and memorable to them.

Another strength that my routine had in the final performance is that each movement and my chosen dancers encapsulated the narrative of P.T Barnums oddities and its values of love, friendship and acceptance through emotion and choreography. Doing this made the piece more successful because it helped the audience feel the emotions of the characters. This meant that they could relate to the characters and their feelings more. Therefore, making the piece more memorable and impactful.

Additionally, the performance had various weaknesses one of which was that some of movements could not be carried out correctly because the performance space was too small in comparison to the amount of dancers that were carrying out the movements. This meant that various collisions happened on stage which broke the lines of various movements. Therefore, making certain moves look less impressive.

Another weakness that the performance had was that we did not manage to choreograph the entirety of the song 'From Now On' because we did not have time to complete the whole song in the time limit which is something I would try and do if I carried out this process again. This also meant that the piece ended very abruptly. Therefore, making the piece overall less impactful and effective.

If I had to carry out this entire process again as a choreographer I would improve the piece by having everyone dance with bistro chairs instead of a mixture of different chairs because this improves the aesthetics of the piece as well as being a more stable foundation for the balances carried out on the chairs. This would likely lead to a safer foundation for this technique as well as making the routine more dynamic and visually impactful to audiences. Therefore, creating a larger long lasting impression.

Another improvement that I would make if I had to carry out this process as a choreographer again I would improve the piece by incorparating partner work because this is a successful technique used by both Wallen and Wright. It also leads to a good way of conveying the unity of the characters and the value of friendship. Therefore, allowing the audience to feel connected to the characters and the narrative.

In conclusion I think my piece was very successful all because it was both artistically and technically very impactful to the audience because not only did it convey the messages of friendship and the emotions of the characters as well as being very visually appealing. This meant that the piece was memorable to audiences. Therefore, leaving a larger long lasting impression on them.
