         <title>Darwin&#39;s Evolution Theory</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Species vary globally, locally, and over time.</strong> Similar animal species would inhabit globally, and occupy same part of habitat within local area. Furthermore, some fossils of extinct animals were similar to living species.<br><strong>Charles Darwin is a great scientist</strong>, since he explained how modern organisms evolved from common ancestors. Most importantly, he provided insights about how the living world is constantly changing, for instance, a bacteria becomes drug-resistant. <br>However, more and more scientists start to question on Darwin's Evolution Theory. I think, probably, <strong>there would be a new theory which would rule next two centuries.<br>Question: What does it mean that "different, yet ecologically similar, animal species inhabited separated"?</strong></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>We studied Darwin in humanities last year, focusing on his view of human beings. I think it will be interesting to study Darwin and his theory from a scientific perspective this year in biology. I am <br>excited to study the science behind evolution that allows species to change based on conditions around them. I also thought it was really interesting that species can adapt based on their environment, like the Isabela Island Tortoise and the Hood Island Tortoise. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I find the concept of biological diversity and the fact that there can be a plethora of different organisms and species within those organisms to be fascinating. I thought it was super cool that Darwin was so committed to explaining biological diversity in a scientific way, that he discovered patterns within the build and appearance of certain organisms in one area and connected them to another, creating the "three distinctive patterns of biological diversity."</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I thought it was interesting how Darwin was able to connect three different species from three completely different continents simply by observing how similar they and their habitats were ecologically. I was also somewhat surprised that Darwin originally thought the finches were all different bird species simply because they all had different beaks, as I imagine that most if not all of them had the same shape, feather color, etc.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>It’s so intriguing to me how species of animals (plants too) can vary even now locally. Globally and over time I can understand, how maybe some animals evolved to be smaller, or a mix of genetics, etc. But even locally, like how the Isabela and Hood island tortoises live rather close, but the land they inhabit is very different, and as a result they are different from each other! Also what fascinated is how Darwin was able to find large, flightless birds in South America, Africa and Australia have all resemble in size and how they are only found in those areas (naturally) and how those large birds are only found in the Southern Hemisphere. Might not seem like the greatest connection, but last year when we read <em>The Merchant of Venice </em>we talked about how living conditions and experiences can alter a person’s personality and who they grow up to be, it’s cool to see here how different living conditions(habitats) can possibly change how animals and plants grow, maybe it hinders them or provides an obstacle where the animals then have to evolve.<br><br>- Gracie</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I found it fascinating how Darwin discovered the different types of tortoises and an older version of the armadillo. I am curious about how quickly animals like that can evolve and adapt to changes in their environment. After reading excerpts from The Origin of Species and The Descent of Man in humanities, I am interested in learning about how Darwin developed his theories and am excited to better understand the science behind them.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I was very surprised by a few things in this reading. One of those things is that I can see this process of species varying locally in my own life. Around the area, there are so many different types of birds. Some of them are much different than others, but, if you look closely, many seem to be similar and could easily be mistaken for a different kind of bird. This shows me that they could have come from some kind of common ancestor, just like Darwin described during his travels.<br>I was also somewhat surprised that evolution was a theory before Darwin did his research. I had thought that he came up with the original idea, but now I know that he expanded on a theory that already existed.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>It is really cool how much data Darwin was able to collect and all of the different insights into patterns globally, locally, and overtime he was able to notice because of that. He travelled so expansively and worked hard on collecting and recording so many diverse types of specimens so that later he was able to recognize the relationship between these different species all over. For humanities we have been looking at the Native American peoples and a big question that comes up is how did they get to the Americas. I am now wondering if this missing piece with biodiversity is the same as that with humans.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>There were a couple of things that really stuck out to me about Darwin's story, but the first was that most of it seemed to be an unlikely coincidence. The fact that Darwin wasn't setting out to create such a revolutionary theory seems almost unbelievable given how crucial it has been to all of science. The second main thing that made an impression upon me were Darwin's observations about flightless birds. I had always thought about how it felt unlikely that there would happen to be multiple different species of flightless birds, but had never thought about why. The fact that these similar yet different birds all live in very ecologically related environments is so intriguing to me. I am curious to learn if there are other different species within various families in which different traits yet similar habitats exist. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I noticed that two regions very close to each other can have their wildlife vary between each other immensely. On one island, Tortoises can look normal, whine on a nearby island only a few miles away, they can have a longer neck that can reach high up. Plus, some animals from two far away places on the earth can resemble each other if their habitats are similar. I wonder how Darwin did not think about why this could be the case until after the samples he gathered were fully analyzed and caused a second scientific revolution. If I had any comments, it would be that the Glyptodont looks like the fat cat equivalent of Armadillos.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I found it interesting that Darwin’s theory about variations in organisms was universal in the different types of animals he studied. Change of animals over time, globally, and locally seems more obvious in larger animals. The difference in the turtles’ neck lengths in the Galápagos Islands and the resemblance between Armadillos and glyptodont seem more evident than changes in beetle species. I’m surprised he was able to prove his theory in small insects! It makes sense that species would adapt and change over time depending on their environment, and it’s really interesting that Darwin’s theory was so apparent in many animals. How are these variations evident today and how long does it take to see an obvious change in animal species? </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Something I found interesting was how much Darwin was able to discover. He started off on a simple journey, not out to change the world and then all of a sudden he revolutionized everything that scientists and biologists had thought about evolution and developments among humans and animals. When he realized what he was discovering, all of a sudden, he became very invested to keep discovering which was very important, otheriwise, we wouldn't have some of the crucial information we have today. The hunger for knowledge led him to so many different discoveries which is so fascinating. One question I have is: what would life be like if he hadn't discovered everything he did about evolution? Would someone else have made any similar discoveries or would life look drastically different?</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Darwin just showed us the boldest idea requires the greatest evidence. Darwin connected multiple features of species across the globe and across time, to show that Animals adapt their environment and change with it over time, which the reason why species are regional, and territorial... Darwin's theory of evolution not only bring revolution to the realm of biology but also theology, humanities, it changed the way we look at ourself as a human. <br>So here is a question: Is the mechanism of evolution itself enough to provide evidence for the origin of human being? Since on earth we only have one history, is the causal  relationship strong enough to give us  confident for our result base on pure evolutionary analysis of the origin of human being?</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I found the comparison of the Armadillo and the Glyptodont interest because of how vast the variation in size and texture differs. It is hard to believe that they are related due to the fact that the Armadillo is a sixth the size of its ancestor the Glyptodont. Reading that Darwin eat and disregarded several tortoises which eventually because crucial to the development of his theory of evolution really makes me wonder how much nature we are disregarding as irrelevant which may actually lead to new discoveries.</div>]]></description>
